Jerry Jones has a problem by the name of ‘defense’, as his Dallas Cowboys’ offensive brilliance has been undermined by the other unit in every game so far.
They have let in the second most yards and points among all 32 teams. That lackluster performance has led America’s Team to post a 3-4-1 record. Now, there are question marks about their playoff chances.
Jones is bullish, believing his team will come around and eventually make it to the postseason. Stephen A. Smith, a close friend of the billionaire, labeled him as ‘delusional’. This time, he had something else to point out to the 83-year-old.
Jerry, what are you doing? What kind of ignorant a** statement is that? You can’t do that! If the Dallas Cowboys miss the playoffs, because they make no moves to improve a defense that was clearly compromised… they are going to hold on to that quote, Jerry… You couldn’t have kept that to yourself?
Stephen A. Smith said on First Take
The ESPN analyst was referring to Jerry Jones’ recent telephonic interview with The Wall Street Journal, in which he said he was focusing on a gas exploration deal that could be worth up to $100 billion.

While saying that, he remarked that he was happy doing so and speaking to WSJ rather than trying to fix his Dallas Cowboys’ defense. Smith felt this remark was absurd, especially considering the circumstances, and wished the owner-cum-GM would keep it to himself.
Stephen A. Smith praises Dak Prescott and his offense while criticizing Cowboys’ defense
Stephen A. Smith was not done talking about the Dallas Cowboys. While trying to question why Jerry Jones would say such a thing in the middle of the season, the analyst went on to say this:
You have one of the most prolific offenses around… and everybody in their grand mama’s (basement) knows that your defense is what’s trash. It’s what you call them, the Allas Cowboys instead of the Dallas Cowboys.
Stephen A. Smith said
The 58-year-old praised Dak Prescott and his offense, claiming the quarterback has played himself into MVP conversations. The last thing he would like is for the defense to mess it up.
Smith reiterated that if Jerry Jones does not make changes soon, every fan, analyst, and journalist will hold his comments about prioritizing the $100 billion gas deal against him.
Will Jerry Jones make a trade to help the defense?
After every game, the most frequently asked question to Jerry Jones is whether he will dive into the trade market to improve the defense. Every time, his answer has revolved around finding the right fit, as well as a fair deal.

It seems he is fully aware that teams will try to finesse the two first round picks he received while trading away Micah Parsons. This suggests that currently, there is no way the Cowboys owner will look to reinforce his team.
With the trade deadline just a few days away, all eyes will be on what comes out of AT&T Stadium. If Jones makes a deal and his defense improves, his critics will slack off. Otherwise, they will be ready with his quote to The Wall Street Journal in hand.
