Despite trading Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers, the Dallas Mavericks’ GM Nico Harrison does not seem to have learnt his lesson. Two months plus later, Harrison still has been making headlines for his recent remarks regarding the blockbuster trade deal that went down in February. The Mavs GM made a bold assertion in a recent interview.

For the first occasion since he addressed reporters on February 2, Harrison spoke to the media on Tuesday. He stated that he has ‘no regrets’ regarding the Doncic trade, a claim made by the Mavs GM, especially after the aftermath of the trade. In addition, these remarks did not go down well with NBA analyst Stephen A. Smith.

You shut up and you go home. That’s what [Nico Harrison] should do.

Stephen A. Smith said on the First Take show

Smith’s anger is justified mostly because the Mavs traded one of the best players on their roster in Doncic, with Harrison being at the helm of the decision-making process. The trade deal broke millions of Mavs fans’ hearts, and some still haven’t moved on from the deal. Not only that, but Doncic himself did not hold back his emotions when he returned to the American Airlines Center lately.

However, Smith also spoke in favor of Harrison before dismissing him. He stated that, were the injured Mavs players fit and competing on the floor, one would have understood how this trade deal would have worked. That’s not the case for now, putting Harrisoon in a tight situation in front of the media.

To make matters worse, Luka Doncic has had an immediate impact for the Lakers under the guidance of JJ Redick. Not only that, he has one of the biggest NBA players in LeBron James alongside him on the court, causing havoc together. So Harrison’s recent words do not sit well, especially with Doncic’s performances on the court.

Mavs’ GM Nico Harrison made a bold claim regarding the Luka Doncic trade

As mentioned above, the Mavs GM, Nico Harrison, recently sat down with the reporters in a ‘closed-door’ meeting to discuss the Luka Doncic-Anthony Davis trade deal. While Harrison claimed that he has ‘no regrets’ regarding the trade, that was not the only claim he made during the interview. While discussing this topic, he had a few bold takes.

Part of my job is to do the best thing for the Mavericks, not only today, but also in the future, and some of the decisions I’m going to make are going to be unpopular. That’s my job, and I have to stand by it.

Nico Harrison said

When Harrison first justified his decision to make the transaction that resulted in the acquisition of Davis, a five-time All-Defensive team pick who was 31 at the time, he said that “defense wins championships.” Harrison also used the same expression again and over while talking about the decision to move Doncic on Tuesday.

Luka Doncic became the NBA’s new top jersey-seller, overtaking Stephen Curry and LeBron James

The Lakers acquired Luka Doncic mid-way through the 2024-25 NBA season. With Doncic’s arrival, it was a given fact that a lot of popularity and media attention was coming the Slovenian’s way. It’s safe to say that it did. So much so that Doncic has overtaken the likes of Stephen Curry and LeBron James to become the NBA’s new top jersey-seller.

Luka Doncic is the NBA’s new top jersey-seller … and the first player not named Stephen Curry or LeBron James to sell the NBA’s most jerseys in a season since 2012-13 … and the first international player to lead the league.

Per Marc Stein

The current Lakers star, who was born in Slovenia, became the first player from outside the country to wear the NBA’s most popular jersey. It wasn’t until Carmelo Anthony‘s No. 1 jersey from the New York Knicks became the most popular during the 2012–13 season that Curry or James didn’t have the best-selling jersey.
