Eminent commentator and host Stephen A. Smith considers New York Jets HC Robert Saleh the reason behind their MNF loss to the San Francisco 49ers. The 56-year-old Smith also let Aaron Rodgers off the hook for the time being.
Aaron Rodgers returned from a season-ending injury last year after Leonard Floyd, part of the Buffalo Bills then, sacked him in the first match appearing for the Jets. Rodgers, 40, hailing from California joined the Jets in the last off-season after spending more than 18 years in Wisconsin with the Green Bay Packers. The MNF game was poised as his return to the field as the Jets are touted as a championship favorite, at least Conference title according to Brett Favre.
However, the start didn’t go as well as planned. The sturdy Jets’ defense faltered as Rodgers was forced to the sidelines watching the 49ers absolutely humiliate them. The Bay Area team had eight straight scoring drives, eventually finishing the game 32-19.
The Jets’ offense could do much of plays as they barely touched the field during the game. In the latest episode of “First Take”, Smith had his choice of words to explain how the situation went. He felt Rodgers wasn’t the problem but raised pertinent questions about the possession time.
Did you see time of possession? Saw how San Francisco had the ball seventeen more minutes than the New York Jets. Did you see how Jets have the lowest time of possession or rather Aaron Rodgers have the lowest time of possession pretty much in his career?Stephen A. Smith said
Smith diverted the question to Saleh. Saleh, who has been coaching the Jets for four seasons, including 2024, hasn’t shown much of a success with three losing seasons to name. Stats are only avoidable for so long before they make long howling noises.
I am of this mindset. Robert Saleh is on the clock. I think his job is in jeopardy... Let me tell why that resonates with me. Who's that team even going against? Wasn't that the team he was the defensive coordinator for four years, wasn't that team, isn't the head coach a guy he worked under for four years? Did you not know the things he was going to do?Stephen A. Smith said

After yesterday’s poor performance, the Jets under Saleh have slipped to 18-34, which is not a pretty picture. They might have had a problem with not having decent quarterbacks, but is it really the only problem?
