It’s a known fact that Stephen A. Smith is no fan of the Dallas Cowboys. The leading ESPN panelist and sportscaster throws shade at the NFC East at every instance he gets. However, as the Dallas Cowboys cruised to a surprisingly explosive win over the Washington Commanders in Week 7, Smith has given credit where it’s due.
In the game against the Commanders, quarterback Dak Prescott completed 70% of his passes, throwing for 264 yards and three touchdowns. The performance led Prescott to rank second in passing yards (1,881) and touchdowns (16) behind Justin Herbert and Matthew Stafford in those categories, respectively. And Stephen A. Smith thinks Prescott’s elevated performance puts him in the MVP race.
I have Dak Prescott, right now, as a leading candidate for MVP honors the way he’s playing right now. 71 percent completions, 270 yards a game, 13 touchdowns, no interceptions, a passer rating of 128 over his last four games, he’s been sensational, no doubt about it, he’s earning his money.

"Are you sitting down? … The Dallas Cowboys are going to the playoffs. Dak Prescott is going to be a top-two candidate for MVP honors."

The analyst also commended the Dallas Cowboys GM and owner, Jerry Jones, for investing in Dak Prescott. He also pointed out that Jones took a gamble on Prescott, making a sacrifice on other positions like wideouts and defensive edges.
Smith has previously vouched for Prescott this season. After the Cowboys cruised to a 2-2-1 record, Smith noted that the absence of his favored wideout in CeeDee Lamb, and star DE Micah Parsons, being traded to the Green Bay Packers, put more pressure on Prescott’s shoulders. And Smith thinks that the 32-year-old QB has handled that perfectly.
I just say to myself, with CeeDee Lamb out, with Micah Parsons having been traded, with the pressure clearly falling on the shoulders of Dak Prescott, he has answered the call. And right now, I think he needs to be a leading candidate for league MVP honors.

However, Smith did not fail to highlight the postseason numbers that day. In his ten years in the league, Prescott has just two postseason victories, winning Wild Card games in 2019 and 2023.
We shouldn’t give a damn about what he’s doing in the regular season. It’s about the postseason. You’ve been in the league for 10 years now. You got two playoff wins on your resume. Lord help you.
Despite the MVP odds for Dak Prescott, Stephen A. Smith doesn’t put the Cowboys as division winners
Stephen A. Smith addressed the prospect of the Cowboys winning the division title, responding emphatically, “Hell no.” Such a reaction is entirely in his character of being a Dallas Cowboys hater.

(On chances of the Dallas Cowboys’ chances winning the NFC East) Hell no. Of course, I don’t believe that. I don’t believe that for one second. I don’t believe that for one second. It’s real fun because, first of all, I want to thank the Dallas Cowboys because they have looked very, very impressive offensively.

The Dallas Cowboys are currently second in the NFC East with three wins and three losses each, and a tied result. The win against the Washington Commanders pushed the latter into third place, but they are still formidable foes with a resurgent rushing attack. However, Commanders do have a tough road with an up-and-coming Kansas City Chiefs squad followed by the Detroit Lions.

The Eagles, who are currently the division leaders, sustained two back-to-back losses before securing a win last week against the Minnesota Vikings. The Eagles have a highly successful unit with Super Bowl winning skills despite the recent drama in their offensive unit. These issues surfaced in the early part of the season, and they seemed to have worked on them in the last victory.
Quarterback Jalen Hurts threw for more than 300 yards, and DeVonta Smith had a magical night with 183 receiving yards and a touchdown on nine carries. If the Eagles continue to maintain this form, they have high chances of being the first repeat division winners in the NFC East since 2004.
