Stephen A. Smith announced his new Super Bowl favorites of the season after the exciting end to Week 10’s Sunday schedule. The analyst stated that the Detroit Lions are potential candidates to take down the Kansas City Chiefs and take home the coveted Lombardi.
The Lions, chasing their maiden title, rallied from five turnovers and a rough first half to defeat the Houston Texans 26-23 on Sunday night. Jake Bates made two crucial fourth-quarter field goals to secure the Lions’ victory. Despite a challenging first half, which included three interceptions of Jared Goff and just seven points on the board, the Lions turned things around after halftime.
On Monday morning’s episode of First Take, Smith revealed his Top 5 NFL teams after Week 9, surprising many by ranking the Detroit Lions at No. 1. He elevated Dan Campbell’s team above the reigning Super Bowl champions, the Kansas City Chiefs, who remain undefeated this season. Earlier, Smith had named Goff as his pick for NFL MVP over Lamar Jackson and Patrick Mahomes.
The Lions have won four championships in the pre-Super Bowl era. However, their Super Bowl statistics aren’t good. They haven’t been good in the postseason either.

In 2023, they won their first playoff game in 32 years. Furthermore, the Lions reached the NFC Conference game for the first time in their franchise history. The current pace could see them making their first-ever Super Bowl appearance. They are currently one of four NFL teams who haven’t played in the titular final.
In Smith’s Top Five list, the Buffalo Bills assume the third position. The Bills are in prime position to lock in the AFC East way ahead of the season. The fourth and fifth places are the Baltimore Ravens and Washington Commanders. The Commanders and the Ravens also hold one of the most talked-about comparisons of the season: Jayden Daniels and Lamar Jackson.
Jared Goff leads an animated locker room with Super Bowl level “Never-Give-Up” spirit
Detroit Lions had many reasons to cheer for amid the win against the Houston Texans. They have extended their record to 8-1, establishing clear signs that they are here to win. Jared Goff, although had five interceptions on Sunday night, was able to turn things around. There was also the inspirational story of game-winning kicker, Jake Bates.
The Lions’ locker room was filled with excitement as the team celebrated their record, leading the NFC standings. Few were more energized than Goff, who delivered a bold three-word message to his teammates: “We’re f***ing different.”

In Week 11, the Lions will face the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Jaguars lost to the Minnesota Vikings, who won without recording a single TD while being forced three times for turnovers. The game is considered a walk in the park for the blazing-hot Lions – who will be aided by the addition of Za’Darius Smith in his classic 99 jersey.
