The latest edition of ESPN’s “First Take” took a dramatic turn as the panel delved into the performance of Sam Darnold following the Minnesota Vikings’ playoff elimination. In a fiery segment, sports analyst Stephen A. Smith took aim at Dan Orlovsky, challenging his inconsistent comments in light of Darnold’s performance.
Smith was referencing Orlovsky’s bold prediction about Darnold’s future, stating he would land a lucrative contract in the offseason after the regular season success with 14 wins. However, as the quarterback began struggling, the ESPN analyst became quieter.
If that didn’t vex Smith– who remained skeptical about the quarterback’s ability to lead the Vikings in the postseason, Orlovksy’s perspective on Darnold seemed to starkly contradict remarks as he questioned the high expectations from him and the high words of praise the quarterback received prior to the playoffs.
Stephen A. Smith lost cool over Dan Orlovsky’s inconsistent comments about Sam Darnold
As the former NFL quarterback began assessing Darnold’s performance in the latest episode of First Take, saying he never considered them close to quarterbacks like the Buffalo Bills star quarterback Josh Allen, Smith absolutely lost his cool.
Stephen A. Smith to Dan Orlovsky: "We've got receipts of you talking about Sam Darnold… I'll parade them all over the world."

To which Orlovsky called out Smith for calling him a “liar” on national television. Sharpe also agreed while trying to soften the blow, saying, “Calling Dan Orlovsky a liar is a little harsh on national television.”
Unlike his colleague Smith, Sharpe taunted Orlovsky for his over-the-top words for the Vikings quarterback ahead of the playoffs loss to the Rams, saying, “Let’s just say he misspoke the truth. We’ll leave it at that.”
Although Smith wasn’t done with his humiliation of Orlovsky, for the sake of them being on national television, he ended the conversation by making fun of Sharpe’s attempt to settle the dispute. As the intriguing segment between analysts concluded, it became clear that the conversation about Darnold’s future was far from over.
