ESPN host Stephen A Smith keeps a close eye on all sports, including boxing and MMA. More to it, the First Take host has taken quite a liking to Ryan Garcia over time. Garcia shocked the world and Smith with his impactful performance against Devin Haney. However, Smith now goes scorched earth on the boxer for blemishing his career.

Ryan ‘King Ry’ Garcia isn’t in the best of places. He’ll just be 26, having served his NYSAC-imposed year ban. He failed testing pools for “A” and later-tested “B” samples, which had a false positive for 19-Norandrosterone but positive for Ostarine. More to it, WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman has expelled him for racial slurs and discrimination. Smith weighs in.

He definitely seems to have a screw loose, ...He does not seem in his right mind. He seems out there and he has completely tarnished his career. He’s warped because he lost to Gervonta Davis. He was embarrassed about it but I don’t think there’s anything to be embarrassed about.

This comes in light of his recent racist rant on live stream in X-Spaces. The host of ESPN’s First Take reckons he knows the root of Garcia’s off-the-rails mannerisms. The straight shooter bills that the crux of it is that he lost to Gervonta Davis. Garcia (back to 24-1, 20KOs) facing the hard-hitting ‘Tank’ Davis was one of the biggest things in 2023.

Davis defeated Garcia via stoppage in the seventh round. The then near-doe-eyed ‘King Ry’ once mentioned to BoxingScene that the marquee loss had awakened a competitive spirit and sent him into overdrive. After that, he destroyed Devin Haney on April 20th at the Barclays Center. Smith says the antics and the awakening were in vain.

Garcia was on hand for Davis’ recent win over Frank Martin, where he demanded a rematch with the star who beat him in 2023. It is something Smith was furious about. Not because he demanded it but because he’d already have it if not for his excessive hijinks. Despite the one-year ban, his expulsion hasn’t slowed his funnyman role either.

Davis bagged an eighth-round KO win over Martin at the MGM Grand Garden Arena; Garcia was sprawling about with a “rematch me” tee on, congratulating him. Stephen A Smith takes aim, saying that he wouldn’t be in this place and would actually be rematching him if he didn’t act so strangely.

Maybe if you follow the rules and regulations, and you went and beat Devin Haney for the title... and you weren't acting all crazy, maybe we would be in the midst of a rematch with Gervonta Davis.

Stephen A Smith has long maintained that the liver shot that downed him in their clash was nothing particularly odd or logic-defying. It could happen to anyone. Smith was also enthusiastically uproaring in favor of Garcia when the point deduction came against Haney. However, he doesn’t favor Garcia’s trajectory that has taken as of late.
