Justin Tucker’s life turned upside down on Thursday when six former massage therapists brought s**ual misconduct allegations against the Baltimore Ravens kicker. Stephen A. Smith believes that somewhere in the back of his mind, Tucker knew about the claims that might have affected his performance during the 2024 season.

Before the Baltimore Banner released their story against the 35-year-old placekicker, many considered him one of the most accurate kickers of all time. Tucker consistently remained above an 82% field goal conversion rate throughout his long career with the Ravens.

In 2024, Tucker surprisingly saw a massive dip. From converting 86.5% of his chances a year earlier when they reached the AFC Championship game, the 5x All-Pro dropped to 73.3% (the worst of his career).

Stephen A. Smith, in the recent episode of ESPN’s First Take, floated the theory that the allegations against Justin Tucker impeded his game on the gridiron.

73%—his worst of his career. Fourth worst in the NFL among 31 kickers with a minimum of 20 attempts. It was the absolute worst season of his career. If he knew those allegations were coming down the pike, that might explain the inexplicable that we’ve been asking ourselves all year long. Why the hell this guy all of a sudden, he can’t make kicks? What the hell is going on? That [s**ual allegations] might answer the question.

Stephen A. Smith said

Despite the bad year, Tucker remains the most accurate kicker with an 89% conversion rate. His 66-yard field goal against the Detroit Lions in the 2021 season is the longest by any kicker in NFL history.

Tucker became a local celebrity after winning the Super Bowl in his rookie season with the Ravens. He frequented various Baltimore spas to avail himself of their massage therapies from 2012 to 2016.

Four such institutions reportedly marked him red after he allegedly misbehaved with the therapists.

Baltimore Banner wrote

The allegations are grave, and Tucker might face serious repercussions if proven. Smith argued that the 7x Pro Bowler should be treated similarly to another infamous NFL athlete.

When Deshaun Watson [Cleveland Browns quarterback] was accused of these things, we were all over it. Justin Tucker is not getting a pass. We understand that doesn’t mean he’s guilty [and] we owe it to our audience, we owe it to everybody to be fair. And if we brought that momentum with Deshaun Watson, we can’t escape doing so with Justin Tucker.

Stephen A. Smith said

Right after securing a five-year, $230 million deal with the Browns, the NFL banned Deshaun Watson for 11 games after as many as 12 women accused him of misbehaving with them on various occasions. 24 lawsuits were filed against the 29-year-old, but his lawyers managed to settle all but one. Since moving to Cleveland, Watson has only played a total of 19 games (injuries played a part as well).
