As the Dallas Cowboys refused to make any proactive moves to improve their chances for a successful regular season, the primary focus has shifted to Micah Parsons’ contract extension. This topic has sparked a heated debate between Stephen A. Smith and Chris Canty on First Take, highlighting the urgency and significance of the situation.
Smith was still reeling from Canty’s perspective on Aaron Rodgers in free agency when the former NFL lineman further provoked him, to such a point where the sports analyst demanded a “time-out!” While talking about the two-time All-Pro linebacker’s future in Dallas, Canty suggested that the franchise should trade him.
“This ain’t Unsportsmanlike. This is First Take,” fired Smith on ESPN’s First Take.
We have this segment because you brought up the culture, you brought up the podcast, you brought up the locker room… in the comment about Mike McCarthy– that is the reason. We are talking about this subject. If this was a just a matter of numbers, we wouldn’t be addressing this, we did this days ago. We did this because you went on air and you brought up culture and blamed him [Micah Parsons] which to me is crazy. That’s just crazy. You blame Micah Parsons for the culture in Dallas? Hell no!

Smith’s words came as no surprise since he has been advocating for Parsons to land his deserving contract, believing he’s a “culture builder,” not a shredder. Given that, he is coming off a season with the fifth-most sacks (12) despite the team’s 7-10 collapse and is not even demanding the highest-paid contract.
Stephen A. Smith defends Micah Parsons for snubbing Dak Prescott from top quarterbacks
The cap space wasn’t the only argument Canty presented while claiming that the Cowboys should trade Parsons. He accused the edge rusher of making several controversial statements about the team on his podcast, where he once snubbed Dallas star quarterback Dak Prescott off the list of top quarterbacks in the league. But the ESPN analyst had some good points to throw at Canty, even for that.

Let’s take into account what you said, Chris Canty, and [Micah Parsons] talking about Dak Prescott — so what? That man’s getting paid $60 million, highest-paid quarterback in the league. And the brother’s got two playoff victories. Jalen Hurts has been in the league less. He’s got two Super Bowl appearances and a Super Bowl championship.

He further backed his argument by highlighting the historic rookie season of Jayden Daniels, who led Washington Commanders to the conference championship game. Meanwhile, quarterback Prescott has yet to lead his team to the NFC Championship game in his 10-year career.
