It was a heartbreaking night for the star quarterback Josh Allen, who once again fell short against the Kansas City Chiefs, the same team he has lost to three times in the past. Adding to his disappointment, Stephen A. Smith exacerbated the situation by emphasizing that Allen is not on the same level as elite Patrick Mahomes.
While the Chiefs celebrated their historic victory of qualifying for the Super Bowl for the fifth time in the last six years, quarterback Mahomes was mindful enough to apologize to Allen, whom he considers a good friend outside the field. The loss dropped the Buffalo Bills star quarterback to the lowest postseason losses, tied with Aaron Rodgers; while continued the ever-lasting Super Bowl drought.
In the latest episode of ESPN’s First Take, Smith gave his honest assessment of Allen, given the quarterback has played well in all four of the playoff losses against Mahomes-led Chiefs. Though the analyst did not intend to disrespect the quarterback, his remarks took a sharp turn as he claimed that Allen’s only flaw is that he can’t be Mahomes.
Additionally, the sports analyst argued that until the Bills and Chiefs share the same conference, their playoff clash will always be costly for the former and the Super Bowl dream will remain a mere dream.
Josh Allen stands by Sean McDermott amidst criticism
Since the playoff elimination for the fourth time due to the Chiefs, the Bills have begun evaluating where things are going wrong. However, quarterback Allen refused to believe that head coach Sean McDermott is the reason behind the team’s collective failure, expressing confidence in him despite the playoffs woes.
The Pro Bowler also claimed that head coach McDermott deserves more credit than him for their successful regular season run, which was mostly given to the quarterback amid his MVP candidacy. He coached the team this far, from revamping both offense and defense to advancing to the AFC championship game with the AFC East title.
