Stephen A. Smith ripped into the New York Giants after colleague Elle Duncan received flak for her comments on the final speech by Daniel Jones. The backlash came after Duncan made light of Jones’ departure, which followed his request for release from the team on Friday.

The New York Giants and quarterback Daniel Jones parted ways on Friday after a disastrous opening to the 2024 season. The Giants are one of the worst-performing teams in the league, with a 2-8 record through Week 11. Furthermore, along with the Dallas Cowboys, the Giants are one of the two teams yet to register a win at home.

On a segment with the SportsCenter on Thursday, Duncan criticized the validity of the player’s farewell speech. Duncan also took time to comment on the contractual aspect of the player leaving the team as well.

You guys think he had this saved in his notes since like 2020? In all seriousness, DJ, I could have saved you like 90 seconds. A rewrite: I’m sorry you paid me $108 million for one playoff win. And I look forward to reviving my career as Brock Purdy’s backup. The end.

Pat Hanlon, senior vice president of communications for the Giants, had called out Duncan for what he explained as “tone-deaf” comments towards Daniel Jones. Stephen A. Smith lashed out against the team and Hanlon as he defended Duncan. In his tirade, Smith also took a shot at the New York Jets as well.

The New York Giants, respectfully, shut the hell up. Y’all are awful as an organization. You won a Super Bowl in 2007. You won a Super Bowl in 2011. Outside of that since 2011, the Giants have made the playoffs twice. They’ve won one playoff game. … y’all are sorry! Y’all are pathetic!

Daniel Jones and the New York Giants are 2-8 to the season. Fans have been calling out signal-calling changes for a long time. It was so fierce that a loss against the Minnesota Vikings in Week 1 led to boos and jersey immolation.

The final straw on the management side was the loss to the Carolina Panthers. The Big Blue benched Jones ahead of their Week 12 game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for Tommy DeVito.

Where would Daniel Jones potentially go after a failed stint with the New York?

There are two possibilities. He could go unclaimed according to ESPN’s Jordan Raanan after becoming a free agent. Secondly, he could land in a team that needs roster depth in the quarterback position. Raanan stemmed his argument because of the $12 million remaining on his contract for the rest of the season.

The Athletic’s NFL insider, Charlotte Carroll, opinionated differently from Ranaan. Caroll, in fact, noted that there are two surprising teams with an active interest in Daniel Jones. The first is the Dallas Cowboys, where starting quarterback Dak Prescott is out for the year, and backup Cooper Rush has been struggling.

The second potential landing spot is the Philadelphia Eagles. Caroll noted that the Eagles could use Jones to provide rest to starters ahead of the playoff push. Additionally, there is some noise from the Cleveland Browns as well.
