“One reason Team USA won gold…” Stephen Curry did what LeBron James or Magic Johnson couldn’t do, claims analyst
Colin Cowherd claims Stephen Curry's unreal performance helped LeBron James and Team USA win gold at Paris Olympics.
Stephen Curry's performances helped LeBron James and Team USA win gold at Paris Olympics
In the gold medal game Team USA men’s basketball won to cement their status as the best basketball nation in the world. The star-studded team had production from the likes of LeBron James, Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant and others.
However, with his performances in the final as well as the semifinal of the Paris Olympics, the Golden State Warriors star cemented himself as one of the greats. That is the conclusion longtime analyst Colin Cowherd came up with while speaking on his show, The Herd with Colin Cowherd.
Take out Magic Johnson. He is by far and away the best point guard ever. Only Magic is close, and Magic couldn’t score like this. LeBron is the great Swiss Army knife in basketball. He can duplicate almost anything. But he can’t do what Steph does. There is only one guy and only one reason Team USA won the gold. And it’s not LeBron, it’s Steph.Colin Cowherd said
Cowherd essentially was slamming those who still question if Stephen Curry is an all-time great. He thinks with those performances, there should be no doubt left.
Colin Cowherd feels that Stephen Curry has brought an element of scoring that no one in the league has replicated or done in the past. That comes from supreme confidence in one’s abilities. That is, despite being cold in the first four games of the Paris Olympics.
That composure to not question one’s abilities, come back and enthral the world, takes special talent. A level, that according to Cowherd, elevates Stephen Curry above Magic Johnson to be the best point guard ever. That talent was the deciding factor in helping LeBron James and Team USA win the gold.
Golden State Warriors need better talent around Stephen Curry
With such talent, the Golden State Warriors are fortunate to have won four NBA Championships in the last 10 years. But that said, the superstar is 36 and nearing the end of his career. His current contract runs until the end of the 2025-26 season. Placing him perfectly in line to retire from the game.
That said, in those two years (or more), Curry will not back down from producing unreal plays. Therefore, the Golden State Warriors should work on getting him the best players available for another title run or two. This season, they managed to get a few players in. They could compensate for the loss of Klay Thompson.
However, it is easier said than done. The earlier the Warriors get their new players dialed in, the better. As they will need to put up a better effort than last year’s 46-36 record. The competitiveness of the Western Conference makes such a record look good enough for a play-in spot. Stephen Curry cannot afford that.
