Stephen Curry gives cosign to ‘take over’ as Jonathan Kuminga shines in superstar’s absence

Stephen Curry and Jonathan Kuminga

The Golden State Warriors and Houston Rockets faced off in a crucial Western Conference matchup that included eight games in a jam-packed schedule. Thanks to strong teamwork and some outstanding plays by Jonathan Kuminga and a few seasoned stars, the Warriors, who had lost five straight going into the game, ultimately ended their losing skid.

Notably, they won without their star, Stephen Curry. The Warriors had a strong start and won the first half by 7 points (49–43) despite missing both, Curry and Draymond Green. Although the Rockets would make multiple late-game surges, the Warriors held their own and won by a slim margin (99-93).

However, it was Kuminga who starred for the Warriors in this matchup. Curry later took to social media to subtly give Kuminga his thumbs-up to ‘take over’ the franchise in his absence.

Take over then.

Curry was responding to a post by the official Warriros account on X. The post included a video of Kuminga scoring his season-high points, which ended with Curry and Green reacting ecstatically. DubNation, too, was left in awe of Kuminga’s top performance.

On 53.3% shooting, Kuminga recorded 33 points, 9 rebounds, and 2 assists. On 8–15 shooting, Andrew Wiggins contributed 23 points, 9 rebounds, and 2 assists. Kyle Anderson, meanwhile, played 13:59 minutes off the bench and finished with 8 points, 2 rebounds, and 2 assists.

The match was a good test of how the Warriors, who were on the verge of falling apart, would handle adversity without their two greatest players. The Warriors responded admirably tonight, and their most recent triumph offers some lessons for their upcoming opposition in the NBA.

Steve Kerr’s ‘rotation’ plan is working out well for Jonathan Kuminga

During their run of four straight losses, the Warriors’ attack frequently seemed to be inactive. The team also found it difficult to match the Phoenix Suns’ intensity on November 30.

Steve Kerr acknowledged the difficulties faced by some of the team’s younger players during his news conference after the game. He also unveiled a new strategy to incorporate his young players particularly — Jonathan Kuminga — into stronger lines.

(Kuminga) is one of the guys who we have to look at in terms of who he is playing with, and can we get him more minutes with Steph and Draymond? He is better with those guys.

Stever Kerr said after the game

Nevertheless, Kerr’s plan to give Kuminga more minutes did not fail. The youngster exploded against the Houston Rockets in their most recent matchup, scoring a whopping 33 points.

All this was done without Stephen Curry and Draymond Green present on the court. It will be interesting to watch how Kerr handles Kuminga’s minutes from here on this season.
