Many suggested Austin Rivers as done and dusted before the start of the 2020-21 season. Having moved away from Houston Rockets to New York Knicks, Rivers missed the 4 pre-season games. He went onto miss the next 4 games as well for the Knicks in the regular season due to his groin strain. But ever since he has been in action for his new team, he has been breath-taking. In New York Knicks latest game against the Utah Jazz, his performance yet again uplifted the team. But as impressive as the Knicks were in the first half, they downplayed themselves in the second.

Rivers’ performance was appreciated by Golden State Warriors’ leader Stephen Curry. When the first half was still halfway from done, Austin Rivers dropped his fifth three-pointer to reach the 25 points mark. At that point, the Knicks were leading 48-34, and it was Rivers’ 10th conversion from as many field attempts. Curry could not hold him back and he tweeted this.

But what could’ve been a 40+ point game, Austin Rivers could not capitalise on his first half performance. He went scoreless in the next half as the Jazz outplayed the Knicks. The Knicks are still enjoying a decent year so far when compared to their last few seasons. They certainly got their new year ruined at the hands of the Toronto Raptors, but thanks to Austin’s clutch play, they bounced back 106-102 against the loaded Indiana Pacers.

The Knicks have even defeated Stephen Curry led Warriors in the 2021 season, without having Austin Rivers. But having said that, Rivers’ importance in the current Knicks Team is beyond description.

Austin Rivers mentioned on Knicks official Instagram Handle too. He mentioned how they’re such a young unit and expressed, “Usually don’t comment on this type of stuff. But It’s a process. Trust us. We getting better.” Doc Rivers’ son and a wonderful player, Austin, is certainly a lover of his franchise.
