Andre Iguodala named Stephen Curry the reason behind Warriors $8.8 billion success

The Golden State Warriors have dominated the NBA landscape over the past decade, winning four championships in nine years and solidifying their place as a modern dynasty. At the heart of it all is Stephen Curry, the baby-faced assassin who revolutionized basketball as we know it.

With the Warriors currently valued at an astounding $8.8 billion, the largest of any NBA franchise, Stephen Curry’s contributions are impossible to ignore. One of Curry’s favorite teammates, the 4x NBA champion Andre Iguodala, believes Curry deserves the lion’s share of credit for the Warriors’ success.

Speaking about the team’s historic run, Iguodala didn’t mince words when it came to Curry’s impact.

You can’t win a championship unless you have the best talent. And so, I’m going to go out on a limb and say 80 percent of it is Steph Curry. I know Joe [Lacob] doesn’t like when I say it that way, but it’s the truth. I mean, we all know that.

Andre Iguodala remarked

This may seem like an incredibly high number to attribute to just one person, but who can ever argue against the fact that the definitive moment in the history of the Warriors franchise was them drafting Stephen Curry? Back in 2009, the Warriors were nowhere close to the basketball powerhouse they are now.

However, once Curry imploded onto the basketball scene, he sent a lasting shockwave across the league, eventually transforming the Warriors into one of the greatest teams in modern basketball, albeit with some help.

From the ownership of Joe Lacob to the coaching of Steve Kerr, and superstar talents like Kevin Durant, Draymond Green, Klay Thompson and Iguodala himself, many have a stake in the Warriors’ growth and success. None more, however, than the baby-faced assassin, Stephen Curry.

Andre Iguodala spills the beans on winning Finals MVP over Stephen Curry

While Stephen Curry is widely regarded as the face of the Warriors’ dynasty, Andre Iguodala himself holds a unique place in franchise history. The veteran forward was named Finals MVP in 2015, a decision that remains one of the most controversial in modern basketball.

On a recent stream with Kai Cenat, Iguodala revealed how he felt about winning the award.

I don’t know why they gave it to me. They were supposed to give [Finals MVP] to [Stephen Curry].

Andre Iguodala admitted

Iguodala’s Finals MVP win has long been a polarizing topic. Curry’s critics often point to the 2015 Finals as evidence that he wasn’t the Warriors’ best player during their championship run. Iguodala earned the accolade for his defense against LeBron James and his timely offensive contributions.

However, Stephen Curry’s averages of 26 points, 6 assists, and 5 rebounds per game in that series left little doubt about his offensive dominance, including multiple game-clinching performances late in the series to win the Warriors their first championship in nearly four decades. Thankfully for Curry, he will not retire empty-handed in that department, after picking up the long-awaited Finals MVP trophy in his 2022 championship run.
