The Golden State Warriors had an excellent Sunday night. In addition to defeating the Dallas Mavericks 126-102 to get to 5-1, they also paid tribute to Andre Iguodala by retiring his number nine jersey. This was by placing it on the Chase Center rafter. Notably, Stephen Curry captured much attention for his speech towards Iguodala.
After playing for the Warriors from 2013 to 2019, Iguodala returned in 2021, helping the team capture four titles. There were undoubtedly many memorable moments because he is so embedded in the franchise’s culture. Curry loved the meme so much that he recreated it during his speech, bringing out numerous smirks and laughs from the crowd. To this date, fans often find it funny and passionate at the same time. Iguodala was known for his passion on the court. He was a leader on and off the court. No wonder, the Warriors chose to retire his #9 jersey. In the coming years, other cornerstones of the Warriors dynasty like Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green could also follow in the retired player’s footsteps.
