Stephen Curry warns rest of world after Team USA goes undefeated in pre-Olympics
Team USA men’s basketball has won five straight friendlies in preparation for the Olympics. This super team comprising the likes of LeBron James, Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant, and others has remained undefeated even though some small problems did crop up.
That prompted the Golden State Warriors superstar to send out a warning to the rest of the world as they head into Paris. After the final friendly against Germany, the 4-time champion was asked what he learned about this team.
Probably we're beatable if we don't execute the details what teams doesn't have to do to beat us. Which is, the extra possessions, taking care of the ball, fouling too much. Has nothing to do with our offensive game. Obviously Bron's been taking over in the 4th quarter, giving us a huge bump. We haven't played our best offensive game yet. When we lock in defensive and rebound, nobody can really beat us.Stephen Curry said in the locker room interview
Effectively suggesting that the best is yet to come offensively. They have not started clicking in that aspect yet.
That starts with building the cohesion that is needed to unlock the full offensive potential. Every one of the players has had moments of dominance. But so far, that has not collectively added to the score. However, one positive that came out of these last two friendlies was the emergence of those who were sort of struggling in the first 3.
Joel Embiid will unlock Stephen Curry and USA teammates
Joel Embiid was the biggest question mark after the first three games. Fans and analysts saw him struggling to impose his will in games. Suggesting that he might be still nursing his knee injury or just taking it casually. However, in the last two games, the Philadelphia 76ers superstar has shown impressive improvements.
In the NBA, he is an offensive force. However, in these past two games, he is being used in a big-man playmaking role. His five assists against Germany suggest he is getting a grip on his role. He has been tasked to man the paint. In the past two games, he has done that with aplomb. Leading the team in rebounds and more importantly, his +/- suggests every minute he is spending on the floor is helping the team.
If he keeps establishing himself, he could set up the likes of Stephen Curry, LeBron James, and the rest of the stars to dominate when the Olympics officially start. Maybe then this star-studded team can show what they, as a collective force, can do on the offensive end.
