Stephen Curry’s electric performance helps break nine-game losing streak to Nikola Jokic’s Nuggets

Stephen Curry

Less than twenty-four hours after defeating the Los Angeles Lakers 123-116, the Golden State Warriors defeated the Denver Nuggets 118-104 to complete one of the season’s most remarkable back-to-back sweeps. Stephen Curry and the Dubs have significantly increased their chances of avoiding the play-in tournament, especially with the playoffs drawing near.

For the Warriors, Stephen Curry and Brandin Podziemski starred once again, and the Nuggets learned it the hard way. Podziemski was 10-for-16 from the field (4-for-8 from three) to finish with 26 points, 7 rebounds, and 6 assists. He had no trouble finding room to drive inside and make a jump shot or floater. As for Curry, with 36 points, 2 rebounds, 5 assists, 2 steals, and just 2 turnovers, he finished 13-for-24 from the field.

He is still perhaps the world’s top player at 37. Jimmy Butler delivered yet another stunning performance. He finished with a game-high +21 plus/minus, 19 points, 3 rebounds, 5 assists, and 5 steals. Whether Butler can handle a high-scoring load whenever the Warriors need it is still up in the air. However, that does not take away the impact Butler has had on the Warriors since his arrival.

On the other hand, Nikola Jokic and his Nuggets side have suffered two straight losses despite the Serbian’s top-notch performances. Nuggets HC Michael Malone will have to look into this matter soon as the NBA Playoffs approaches.

With the victory, the Warriors climbed to 46-31 on the season and snapped a nine-game losing run against the Nuggets. In the standings, they are presently only a half-game behind the Lakers and Nuggets. It will be interesting to watch how the Western Conference table finishes at the end of the regular season.

Warriors duo Stephen Curry and Jimmy Butler are on a 20-2 winning run together

Jimmy Butler kept talking about the soreness in his left forearm as he roamed the locker room.
But Butler rarely voiced any complaints on the floor. He competed and made clutch plays in the Golden State Warriors’ 123-116 victory against the Los Angeles Lakers on Thursday evening at Crypto.com Arena. This comes despite suffering an injury in the fourth quarter.

Now, Butler along with Stephen Curry pulled another massive win against the Denver Nuggets at the Chase Center on Friday night. An interesting stat about the two stars is that the Warriors are 20-2 when Butler and Curry play together. In games without the Butler-Curry duo, they have a 19-24 record.

Their mentality helps to explain why Curry and Butler have been such a potent combination since the Warriors traded for the two-time NBA finalist from the Miami Heat over two months ago before the trade deadline. Even though Butler and Curry have different leadership philosophies, scoring prowess, and deviations, they are both obsessed with competing through hardship and suffering.

An exhausted Nikola Jokic makes NBA history in a recent loss against the Warriors

One has to feel bad for the Denver Nuggets star, Nikola Jokic. Mostly because the Serbian star has given it his all on the court for his side, but still suffered back-to-back defeats. In a viral video circulating on the internet, Jokic can be spotted removing his frustrations on the bench during a conversation with a Nuggets staff member.

Despite all of this, Jokic had another effort worthy of an MVP award. According to Stathead, the three-time NBA MVP became the only player in NBA history to record 33 points, 12 rebounds, 9 assists, and 2 steals while shooting 13–17 from the field and 4–7 from three-point range in a single game.

With remarkable 57.8/42.0/80.4 shooting splits, the 30-year-old Jokic has averaged 29.8 points, 12.8 rebounds, and 10.2 assists per game this season. Despite the defeat, Jokic is undoubtedly vying for another MVP distinction, and his remarkable performance versus one of the NBA’s most competitive teams on Friday supports his claim.
