The fight between Khamzat Chimaev and Leon Edwards has been canceled for the second time. First, it was Leon Edwards who gets caught with COVID, now it’s Khamzat who isn’t completely recovered from COVID. UFC was looking for another fighter for the main event.

Stephen ‘Wonderboy’ Thompson recently faced Geoff Neal and won the fight via unanimous decision of the judges. Wonderboy suffered a leg injury in this fight and he is out of running right now. If Wonderboy hasn’t faced this injury he wanted to be the first man to ‘Rocky’ in place of Khamzat.

In his latest interview with MMA Fighting, Wonderboy says “He was who I was shooting for, to begin with, Of course, he was not having it. I’m not really sure what happened with Khamzat, but I would have loved to step out there and fought him for sure.”

“But at this point, with the injury and stuff, it doesn’t look like it’s going to happen but I would love to have faced him. That would have been awesome.”

Wonderboy suffered a mid-fight injury in the fight against Geoff Neal but still, he continued the fight and in the end wins the fight. Right now Thompson is facing to see the seriousness of his injury.

Thompson says, “I get an MRI on it tomorrow. We’ve got to see what kind of tear it’s going to be. I think I have a quad tear. Hopefully, it’s just a muscle and not the tendon. If it’s a tendon, I’ll have to have surgery. I couldn’t come out of that fight unscathed. Come on!”
