WWE Hall of Famer details post-surgery complications after knee replacement as potential WrestleMania 41 appearance looks gloomy
The six-time WWE Champion had been living with the pain of holding off surgery on his left knee for years.

Back in October, “Stone Cold” Steve Austin admitted that he’ll need to take care of his left knee. The 59-year-old tore his ACL when he used to play college football for North Texas State University. After ignoring a mop-end tear for years, Austin underwent surgery in early December, as implied in his latest Instagram post. The WWE HOF’er put up before-and-after X-ray images of his knees.
He’s 7 weeks post-operation, and it’s healing nicely for the Texan wrestling doyen. Even though he’s almost 60, that adrenaline rush gets to him even at this stage of his life. Which is why he started walking too soon after getting his left knee replaced, and the new one took offense to it, quipped Steve.
He continued saying that the total knee replacement is a year-long healing process. Right now, Austin does have some swelling around the affected area. The Rattlesnake has started hitting the gym once again with light workout sessions. And if everything goes right, the WWE great said he’d partake in the annual desert off-road race, the Mint 400.
Austin cannot wait to get back in his Kawasaki KRX1000 this weekend. Having said that, the Attitude Era icon is still in the early stages of his recovery. That pretty much explains his absence from the Netflix premiere of Raw. Reports suggested that he was discussed to appear on the show, but the plans got scrapped.
Also, that also casts a shadow of doubt over his rumored role at WrestleMania 41. A few months ago, Austin teased his involvement in WWE’s biggest show of the year. He might pay a visit, as the two-night event will emanate from the state of Nevada, where Austin resides. But everything depends on his physical well-being.
Steve Austin has more or less wrestled his last match in WWE
Steve Austin has maintained an impeccable legacy in pro wrestling with the career he’s had. His premature in-ring retirement in 2003 after incessant issues with his neck remained one of the biggest what-ifs for years. The fans kept wondering if Stone Cold could do one more match to ride off into the sunset on his own terms.
Fortunately, the stars aligned, and he competed in a full-length match at WrestleMania 38 against Kevin Owens that he won. Since then, he hasn’t returned to WWE. Does he have more left in him?
Even though Austin has stated during multiple interviews that he’s done from an in-ring perspective, the Bionic Redneck can’t catch a break from being the centerpiece of conversation among his peers. Recently, CM Punk reaffirmed his pick of Steve as his dream opponent in WWE. Will it ever happen? Probably not.
