On Monday, Businessman Steve Cohen took part in an event regarding the New York Golf Club. This is one of the teams which will take part in the upcoming TGL season. During the event, Cohen expressed confidence regarding a ‘reunion’ between the PGA Tour and LIV Golfers.

Ever since LIV Golf was established in 2021, the world of golf was left divided. Some of the major names on the PGA Tour would turn their backs on the tour and join the Public Investment Fund (PIF) on big contracts.

Following the announcement of the merger deal in June 2023, things seem to have started repairing a little bit for some players. Cohen has now expressed that the two tour players could ‘reunite‘ amid this ongoing civil war.

It’s a lot of moving parts and I think we’ll get there. The goal is to reunite all the players, it’s fragmented right now. Getting (players from both tours) to play in one tournament, one venue, whatever it is, is exciting.

In the past few months, the talks regarding this deal have advanced at a slower speed than many expected. Recently, there had been reports that this merger deal, valued at $1.3 billion, had been finalized. However, Rory McIlroy denied any such reports and claimed the deal was not finalized yet.

Steve Cohen draws hilarious comparison between signing players for New York Golf Club and New York Mets

After the event regarding the New York Golf Club, owner Steve Cohen met the media. During this, the 68-year-old was asked about co-relating signing players for the golf club and his other sports team, the New York Mets. This led to a hilarious reaction from him.

Cohen owns both the Mets and the New York Golf Club. Before the start of the TGL season, the team assembled an impressive lineup of Xander Schauffele, Rickie Fowler, Cameron Young, and Matt Fitzpatrick.

The businessman would laugh off the question and thank his fortune that he does not have to sign any of these four as they are “really good” players according to him.

These are really good players here, right? Thank God I don’t have to sign them to the prices I have to sign some other players

This question for Cohen also comes at a time when he finds himself battling against other teams to land MLB’s hottest free agent Juan Soto. The 4x MLB All-Star became a free agent this offseason and has attracted interest from several teams.

He will now be hoping his team Mets is the one Soto and his agent Scott Boras choose in the end. Apart from that, he will also be hoping for a strong performance from his TGL team. The New York GC will kick off the TGL season by taking on The Bay Area Golf Club led by Wyndham Clark on January 7, 2025.
