The moment that many had been waiting for arrived on Thursday. Following the enormous $765 million deal, the New York Mets officially introduced Juan Soto. During the ceremony, team owner Steve Cohen hailed him and dubbed him “an extraordinary player.”
Soto penned down the biggest deal in the history of North American sports when he chose the Mets’ offer of a 15-year $765 million contract. This was $5 million more than what his former team, the New York Yankees, had offered.
A day ago Steve Cohen and his wife Alex Cohen released a statement regarding Soto’s signing. While calling him a generational talent, they called it, “a seminal moment in franchise history.”
Cohen has once again praised him. While speaking to the reporters on Thursday, the 68-year-old commented on the addition of Soto to the Mets and how having a ballplayer of his caliber was a big deal for them.
"Juan is an extraordinary player, but we've still got to build a roster of 26 players. But this is a big step forward."

Soto’s addition to the Mets has made them one of the top contenders for the World Series title. However, there are still some spots that they need to fill at the moment.
Steve Cohen says the Mets are "still engaged" with Pete Alonso on the marketplace. "Hopefully, we'll get there."

One of the biggest concerns for them right now is the first base position. Just like Soto, Pete Alonso rejected the qualifying offer from the team and became a free agent. As per Cohen, the team is still engaged in talks with the 4-time All-Star as they look to re-sign him.
Another area the Mets are trying to bolster is the pitching department. Recently, the team added two former Yankee pitchers, Clay Holmes and Frankie Montas, to the team. The team is rumored to make a move for another big-name pitcher.
Steve Cohen comments on taking Juan Soto away from Yankees
Juan Soto‘s move from the New York Yankees to their crosstown rivals, New York Mets, has sparked some furious reaction on the internet. In the introductory press conference of Soto, Mets team owner Steve Cohen commented on the topic of taking him away from the Yankees.
The American businessman refuted the talks of having a special feeling about snatching Soto from the Yankees. Cohen claimed that he does not play this game and expressed that the Yankees will take some players from them in the future.
"I don't play that game. I can promise you, the Yankees will take players from us, and they'll win their share of battles. That's what competition is. We compete on the field, and we're friends off the field."

The departure of Soto has left a huge gap in the lineup of the Yankees. The team has started working on Plan B and looking at potential free agents.
Names such as Christian Walker, Cody Bellinger, Kyle Tucker, and Alex Bregman have been listed as potential candidates. However, as of now, the team has not made a strong push to any of them.
