After a slow start to the offseason, the New York Mets have picked up the pace. On Wednesday, the team landed starting pitcher Freddy Peralta through a trade move with the Milwaukee Brewers. Following this, team owner Steve Cohen dropped a 7-word message.
The Mets had a season to forget in 2025 following their massive slump. After starting the season in hot form and having the best record in the league at one point, the team suffered a huge fall in the second half of the season.
After missing the playoffs on the final day of the season, the team suffered more setbacks as some of the top names in Pete Alonso and Edwin Diaz opted out of their deals. In the offseason, the Mets lost both of them and even traded away Brandon Nimmo and Jeff McNeil.
Last week, the team were in the race for Kyle Tucker. Hours before his deal broke out, Cohen dropped a cryptic tweet on X.

Many Mets fans expected that their team had won the race for Tucker. It was later revealed that the 4-time All-Star had joined the Los Angeles Dodgers and turned down the 4-year, $220 million offer of the Mets.
While Cohen later clarified that he was speaking about pope elections and waiting for the results, he got ridiculed by the fans.
Since losing out on Tucker, the Mets have shifted into top gear. Just a few hours after missing out on him, the team landed Bo Bichette. The American international penned down a 3-year, $126 million deal and joined the Queens-based side.
Then the team added Luis Robert Jr. through a trade deal from the Chicago White Sox. They gave away Luisangel Acuna and Truman Pauley to land the outfielder.
They were also interested in Cody Bellinger. However, after the 2-time All-Star re-signed with the New York Yankees, the Mets turned their attention to Freddy Peralta and brought in the All-Star starting pitcher while giving up Jett Williams and Brandon Sproat.

In space of one week, the Mets have added 3 top names to their team and turned around their offseason. After the acquisition of Peralta, Cohen took to his X account and claimed it was an incredible week.

Mets officially introduce Bo Bichette after landing him on $126 million deal
The New York Mets were looking for a big bat this offseason after losing out on Pete Alonso. Last week, they added Bo Bichette as the big bat on a $126 million deal. On Wednesday, they officially introduced him.

Bichette had an incredible year with the Toronto Blue Jays last season. In 139 regular season games, he hit 18 home runs and had 94 RBIs while batting with a .311/.357/.483 slash line. He would suffer a knee injury in September and miss the ALDS and the ALCS and return during the World Series.
In Game 7, he hit a towering 3-run home run against Shohei Ohtani to give the Blue Jays a 3-0 lead. However, the Dodgers were able to come back and emerged as 5-4 winners after 11 innings and broke the hearts of everyone involved with the Canadian side.
After this huge defeat, Bichette became a free agent. Last Friday, he ended his long stay with the Blue Jays as he joined the Mets. On Wednesday, he was officially introduced as the newest member of the Mets team.
During the introductory press conference, the 27-year-old expressed that his first priority was to win with the team.
Mr. Cohen and David (Stearns) have put together an organization that is looking to win every single year, has an opportunity to win a World Series every single year, and a roster that backs that up… My first priority is winning, and obviously this organization is doing everything that they can to do that.
Bo Bichette said in his introductory press conference
"It's very exciting to be a part of this city, one of the best cities in the world, maybe the best city in the world. Fans, some of the best fans in the world. All of that is something I've always wanted to be a part of."

Bichette will undergo a position transition this season. With Francisco Lindor playing in the shortstop position, the American international will play as the 3rd base and try out a different infield position.
