When asked what his message would be to the Mets fans regarding their wish to see Soto in their colors, the 68-year-old gave a direct answer.

Weโ€™re going to find out. Itโ€™s either going to be yes or no, thereโ€™s no in-between, time will tell.

Cohen also said that they had built a great team last year and they will do it again this year.

We’ll see. We built a great team last year, I fully expect to do the same this year

While the Mets did not get off to a flying start in the 2024 season, they finished the regular campaign as one of the hottest teams in baseball. They would knock the Philadelphia Phillies in the National League Division Series.

In the National League Championship Series, they took the Los Angeles Dodgers to Game 6 but eventually ran out of steam. The Dodgers would knock them out by four games to two and went on to beat the Mets’ city rivals, the Yankees, in the World Series.

NY Mets among 5 teams to officially offer Juan Soto a contract

Recently, MLB insider Buster Olney dropped a huge update regarding Juan Soto‘s free agency saga. The MLB insider claimed that teams can now officially start submitting their offers to the 26-year-old hitter. The New York Mets are now confirmed to be one of those five teams to extend a deal to him.

As per MLB insiders Jon Morosi and Randy Miller, apart from their city rivals Yankees, the Toronto Blue Jays, the Boston Red Sox, and the Los Angeles Dodgers are the other teams to have submitted an offer for Soto. While the Blue Jays and the Red Sox were reported to have made a good impression on Soto, the Dodgers are not backing away from splashing the cash once again this season.

According to Jim Bowden of The Athletic, the amount in this deal could be something around $550 to $650 million. However, Miller suggests that this contract could cost more than $700 million with no deferred money.

As Steve Cohen said, time will tell where Soto will eventually land in 2025. It could take a little while for him and his agent Scott Boras to finally make up their mind and choose his next club.
