The Juan Soto free agency saga continues to deliver new chapters every single day. As per the latest reports from the New York Post, he and his agent, Scott Boras, are set to meet New York Mets owner Steve Cohen in California next week.

The Mets, along with their cross-town rivals, New York Yankees and the Los Angeles Dodgers, are considered as early favorites to sign him in the free agency. As per the report from Mike Puma, several other owners are also expected to meet with Soto and Boras in the upcoming weeks.

Cohen’s meeting with Boras next week could also give him a chance to talk about re-signing Pete Alonso. The first baseman will hit free agency if he declines the qualifying offer of the Mets.

Despite having a high payroll in 2024, the Mets are reported to have some financial flexibility to be active on the free agent market as large contracts of former stars Justin Verlander and Max Scherzer are coming to an end.

Meanwhile, Mets President of Baseball Operations, David Stearns, recently confirmed that he’ll take an “aggressive approach” in free agency to get the players they want. This could see the Mets go all out for Soto during the offseason.

On Tuesday, Yankees GM Brian Cashman also spoke to the media regarding Soto. The 57-year-old revealed that he met with Scott Boras and spoke about re-signing the outfielder to the Bronx Bombers.

Tampa Bay Rays emerge as shock potential candidate for Juan Soto

As per Jon Heyman of the New York Post, the Tampa Bay Rays have emerged as a potential candidate for Juan Soto. Despite not having a roof above their head, the Rays have checked in on the possibility of landing Soto.

As per the MLB insider, the AL East side are one of the seven teams who have joined in on to sweepstakes of Soto. Along with them, the Boston Red Sox, the Toronto Blue Jays, and the San Francisco Giants are also interested in bringing him to their team.

The participation of the Rays is questionable. Though they did offer Freddie Freeman a six-year $150 million deal, this deal with Soto would likely cost around four times more.

As per Heyman’s report, four more teams seem interested in him. However, it has not been revealed yet which four teams these are.

Soto had a fantastic 2024 season with the Yankees. In the regular season, he batted with a .288 average, slammed 41 home runs, and picked up 109 RBIs. In the postseason, he was one of the top performers for the Yankees with four home runs and 9 RBIs while batting with a high .327 average.
