The USA’s basketball men’s team has started their preparation for the upcoming 2024 Paris Olympics in some style, winning 3 out of 3 exhibition matches they have played so far. However, what has caught everyone’s attention is Joel Embiid‘s struggles in the USA side, despite their head coach Steve Kerr still opting to star him. However, this decision has not gone down well with former NBA star Gilbert Arenas.

Arenas claimed on his show that the link-up of the “Big 3” consisting of Lebron James, Stephen Curry, and Embiid has been a disastrous one. In particular, Arenas called out Kerr on his show regarding the head coach’s decision to start Embiid alongside James and Curry. In addition, Arenas also claimed that he does not feel “Kerr is watching the same game that we(the fans) are watching.”

On the Gil’s Arena , Gilbert Arenas said

On the contrary, James and Curry’s position on the roster is set as they are the nation’s best players who complement each other very well on the court. However, one could well and truly question Embiid’s position as a starter for Team USA for the upcoming competition. Despite Kerr’s reluctance to start Embiid, it does not sit well with many USA fans in the nation.

Steve Kerr backs Joel Embiid despite heavy criticism

Joel Embiid has been facing a lot of criticism from the NBA community for his recent performances for his nation, Team USA in exhibition matches. Notably Team USA’s head coach Steve Kerr remains unfazed by all the criticism Embiid has been facing and has opted to choose him alongside LeBron James and Stephen Curry as a starter. Kerr also claimed he “likes” the possibility of the 3 stars playing together.

Yeah, I like those three guys in the starting lineup. We've been looking at other guys around them and we obviously do have great options, but I like those three guys together.
