Stephen Curry‘s shot at his dream 5th NBA title with the Golden State Warriors will have to wait a bit longer as his side was knocked out of the Western Conference semi-finals against the Minnesota Timberwolves. Unlucky for Curry, he had to face the dilemma of watching his side get beaten up by the Wolves from the sidelines.

Curry’s hamstring injury in Game 1 marked a significant tipping point in the series. Despite winning that game, the Dubs lost the following four games without their star player. Curry made every effort from the sidelines; Draymond Green even emphasized his role as a reserve for the Warriors. However, his on-court effect is irreplaceable, therefore, it wasn’t enough.

Notably, Warriors HC Steve Kerr also made a bold statement regarding his star player, had he been fit and healthy, this series. Curry was on fire all season for the Warriors. It was very evident that if Curry had been fit, the Warriors would have been the likely winners of this series. At least that’s what Kerr thought in an interview with The Athletic.

“I know we could’ve gone the distance.” Steve Kerr said

When Curry, who registered 13 points and made fun of the Wolves’ oppressive defense, was hurt, the Warriors were ahead 30–20 against the Timberwolves in the first game of the series. The Warriors prevailed 99-88, but by the time Game 2 arrived, any remaining Curry magic had faded, putting the Wolves in the driving seat of this playoff series.

In addition, Kerr took no credit out of the Wolves’ performance and hailed them for their resilience throughout the ongoing series. Interestingly, the Timberwolves performed at their best to win even though the Warriors were lacking their main man. After the Warriors were eliminated, Kerr emphasized this.

Steph’s injury delayed Anthony Edwards‘ reputation as a legend-killer. Even the Timberwolves might have realized how much Curry’s absence aided their chances of moving on to the next round. It’s safe to say that the Warriors HC thinks the same. However, he did not want to bring that topic out and chose to give the Timberwolves their fair due of credit.

“I don’t want to take anything away from what Minnesota just accomplished. No sense in even talking about Steph.” Steve Kerr said

For making another long playoff run, the Wolves are deserving of all the praise in the world. Many believed the squad would not be at the same level when they dealt Karl-Anthony Towns for Julius Randle. The latter has also played a significant role in proving their skeptics wrong. Now, all eyes move onto the upcoming WCF Finals.

Going into this particular playoff series, all eyes were on two stars of the respective sides: Stephen Curry for the Warriors and Anthony Edwards of the Timberwolves. It’s safe to say that it was Edwards who triumphed between the two. Unlucky for Steph, he got injured in Game 1 and sat out all the remaining games.

But it was Edwards’ series all along. The Wolves defeated the Warriors 4-1 in the series due to the dominance of Edwards. Wednesday night saw the final meeting between these two teams, and the Wolves prevailed 121-110 to end the series at home. After the game, Warriors HC Steve Kerr and Edwards shared a wholesome moment, which was caught by the cameras.

In what appeared to be a sweet moment between them, the Warriors shot-caller congratulated Edwards on an amazing series. It was evident that there is nothing but respect between the two, even though the microphones were unable to capture every word of their brief conversation.
