Steve Kerr was left unhappy after Draymond Green was ejected early in the second quarter against the Phoenix Suns. The Golden State Warriors avenged their loss on Thursday by beating the Suns 119-116 at the Chase Center on Saturday night. The win ended the Warriors’ losing streak of three games. A hard-fought game from start to finish, as the Warriors had to play most of the game without their defensive leader, Green.

Stephen Curry led the team with his first double-double of the season with 28 points, 10 rebounds and six assists and was supported by Jimmy Butler. For the Suns, Devin Booker scored a game-high 38 points while Dillon Brooks recorded another 20-point game, scoring 22 points.

The win propelled the Warriors to eighth in the Western Conference standings with a 14-15 record, while the Suns sit one place above them at seventh with a 15-13 record as they continue to surprise everyone despite losing Kevin Durant and Bradley Beal in the offseason. Alongside Booker, it is Dillon Brooks who has risen to the occasion for the Suns as the forward is currently averaging 21.7 points, 3.2 rebounds and 1.8 assists.

There is no love lost between Brooks and the Warriors. After a couple of heated moments with LeBron James earlier this season, Brooks came up with one of the dirtiest moves of the season when he took an uncalled shot at Curry’s rib cage on Thursday, which led to a flagrant one foul but not an ejection, much to the disappointment of Warriors head coach Steve Kerr.

Kerr was left absolutely livid when he spoke about Green’s ejection in the post-match press conference, comparing it to what Brooks had done to Curry in their previous matchup.

How can you not be upset? This is a guy who broke Gary’s elbow in the playoffs. Close lining him with one of the dirtiest plays I’ve ever seen. So it’s not like there’s not a track record there. I don’t know what the point of replay is if you’re not going to kick a guy out for literally punching somebody. It’s bizarre to me that he was not ejected from that game or suspended or fined.

Fortunately for Kerr and his men, they were able to put the controversy behind them as they secured a much-needed win, which has been quite a struggle for the Warriors of late.

The Warriors squad have not been on the same page

Things have not been going well for the Warriors over the last few weeks. They came into Saturday’s game on a three-match losing streak and were in desperate need to turn this around as they continue to fight for a place in the top six and secure direct qualification for the playoffs.

Following Green’s ejection, it was up to the two veterans Curry and Butler to carry the Warriors, and that is what happened as the two combined to score 53 points. Kerr has had his hands full with injuries, which have forced him to try out different lineups and rotations. Speaking to the media after the game, Butler said the team have not been on the same page.

I just don’t think that we have all been on the same page, playing for one another. Honestly, we were all on the same page on how badly we wanted to win this one. After the ending of the game, we all came to a certain conclusion. We all have got to be in this team together.

All eyes will be on the Warriors as everyone will hope that this win can kick-start their season and make a push for the NBA Championship.

Stephen Curry felt Draymond Green’s ejection helped the team

The Warriors needed a wake-up call heading into the game, but things just got from bad to worse as they found themselves conceding 44 points in the first quarter and were down by 12. But after Green’s ejection and Kerr being handed a technical foul for taking it to the official, Curry and his men finally had their awakening.

In the post-match press conference, Curry thanked Green’s ejection for waking up the team and taking up the challenge.

It was a weird, choppy, physical game in the first quarter and spilled into the second quarter. I think it woke us up because without him, we would have had to play even tougher, dig deeper down the rotation.

At this point in the campaign, it appears that anything will do for the Warriors as they are in search of a run of wins. They will be looking to back up their win and build some momentum in their next game against the Orlando Magic.
