Golden State Warriors HC Steve Kerr, Kevin Durant and Steph Curry
This season’s NBA trade deadline shook fans from across the globe. No one envisioned that those many superstars would now play for other teams. Among those names, Kevin Durant was also mentioned as a trade possibility as fans kept tabs on any updates once the rumor came out of a possible reunion.
The Golden State Warriors called the Phoenix Suns asking them for a chance to trade for their leading superstar. They wanted to reunite him with Steph Curry as they looked towards a deep playoff run. They even structured a massive deal which the Suns liked.
However, Durant clarified that he did not want to move back to San Francisco. It was revealed that he had a conversation with Curry and decided that the time was not right for a reunion. ESPN’s Ohm Youngmisuk asked Warriors head coach Steve Kerr about his former player declining the reunion.
I don’t blame Kevin one bit for not wanting to rerun things here. He took so much s**t for like, ‘Oh, you’re jumping on the bandwagon’. And then he’s Finals MVP two years in a row. It’s like he still gets criticized. So why would he want to face all that B.S. again?
Steve Kerr said
Steve Kerr had a point as Kevin Durant reuniting with Steph Curry at the Golden State Warriors would have instantly brought back those discussions. Many have held those two NBA titles against him. They believe he won it because he was on a 73-9 team, and not just because of his own talents.
Warriors winning with Jimmy Butler whereas Kevin Durant and Suns struggle
In the aftermath of that, the Golden State Warriors traded for 35-year-old Miami Heat superstar Jimmy Butler. Since then, the team have won three out of their last four games before heading towards All-Star weekend.
Their lone loss to the Dallas Mavericks was close, and had Butler had more time with them, the result could have been different. One particular point that has caught the eye of many is that Steph Curry looks rejuvenated.
He revealed that he and Butler have completely opposite playing styles. But those two opposing skill sets are helping the team win. With more time playing together, this team could make a run for a proper playoff spot.
On the other hand, the Phoenix Suns entered February knowing they had arrested a horrific run that started from mid-November. Their 10-5 record in January saw them enter the playoff spots again. However, this month, they are struggling again.
The Phoenix Suns have won just one game out of six games. They enter All-Star weekend knowing their season is in jeopardy. But they will have to wait until Kevin Durant returns from the festivities in his old stomping grounds.
