The conversation around the charter lawsuit was at the forefront of discussions during the NASCAR State of the Sport press conference ahead of the season finale. Steve Phelps and Steve O’Donnell made some bold comments regarding the lawsuit as well as the consequences of it during the media session.
NASCAR didn’t get the result they expected in latest court session as well as the settlement talks. The recent revelation about the finances of the sport as part of the trial proceedings raised a lot of eyebrows. In 23XI Racing co-owner Denny Hamlin’s words, either team or NASCAR is going suffer significantly once court proceedings conclude.
When asked about the whole drama, the president of NASCAR, Steve Phelps, pointed out that they are determined to settle the litigation, something every team in the sport wants to see happening. He asserted that they are trying their hardest to keep the sport he loves since he was five, safe from potential downfall.
NASCAR is fully aligned with our race team partners who have submitted declarations hoping to end this litigation. We are trying our hardest. I am trying my hardest both as a fan as well as the commissioner of this sport that I’ve loved since I was 5 years old.

Further talking about the point, he asserted that it is unfortunate that two teams decided sue the sport. He then shifted the focus to racing and asserted that the Next-Gen era racing has been better than ever. Phelps declared that the fans are being served with entertaining races they deserve in all three national championships.
While two out of the 15 teams may not share that view and seem set on an unfortunate court battle, I hope that we can all agree that our racing is as good as it has ever been and we care about how we serve our fans, especially as we look forward to capping off our season by celebrating new champions across all of our national series.

NASCAR slams Denny Hamlin controversy
In the same interview, NASCAR’s Steve O’Donnell was asked about the potential issues that might rise if they penalize Denny Hamlin in the season finale. There might be claims of sabotage to deny the veteran the championship owing to the enmity that have between each other over the lawsuit,

O’Donnell branded the question as nothing but absurd, and pointed out that they have all the technology in place defend themselves over certain officiating decisions. He promised transparency over any decisions they take in the finale.
No…it’s an absurd question… Because we have all the technology in place. We have an unbelievable officiating team. I think that question actually is a bit absurd. I’m pretty confident in the decisions we’ll make and the transparency we’ve had throughout the year.
Steve O’Donnell said.
The comments from the veteran NASCAR officials seems pretty rational and it would be interesting to see how everything is going to playout for the sport in the court. It’s either going to be make or break for the sport regarding at the season finale.
