If not for the Buffalo Bills, the Kansas City Chiefs would have remained unbeaten this NFL season. On the other hand, Patrick Mahomes and the offense’s struggles would not have helped them stand with a 11-1 record if not for their defense. That brings the onus on what Steve Spagnuolo and Chris Jones have done.

The long-time defensive coordinator has been a mainstay on the Kansas City Chiefs and has built solid defenses after solid defenses. The way he coaches players has helped them collectively achieve their goal of playing outstanding defense. This season has been the best example of that coaching.

After last season, star defensive back L’Jarius Sneed and linebacker Willie Gay left for other teams. That left Spagnuolo with a younger than usual defense. But so far, that young defense has been spectacular as they have managed to put themselves in the top 3 among all NFL teams.

Steve Spagnuolo may have worked wonders with this defense. But Maria Spagnuolo, wife of the defensive coordinator, has also had a hand in it. Amazon Prime’s Kaylee Hartung revealed this during their game against the Las Vegas Raiders.

I just discovered a secret ingredient to the Chiefs’ success. It’s defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo’s wife, Maria. Her homemade banana pudding is delivered every week to the facility. And she cooks up an entire Italian meal for the player with the best hit in each win.

Hartung revealed that last Sunday’s winner was Justin Reid. She also added that Maria Spagnuolo has had this tradition in place for a very long time as Raiders head coach Antonio Pierce mentioned wanting to take a pudding home. Pierce played for Spagnuolo at the New York Giants.

Steve Spagnuolo and Chris Jones pushing Chiefs three-peat goals

The Kansas City Chiefs won against the Las Vegas Raiders in epic fashion as their offense again could not convert Patrick Mahomes 306 yards into scores. However, it was again the defense that came to the fore. Chris Jones had two sacks on the night to lead all defensive players.

But more importantly, the collective group under Steve Spagnuolo produced another good game as they stopped the Raiders on a majority of their drives. It might not have been their best display yet, but the group has kept many teams at bay with their combined efforts.

The group is giving the team the bedrock for their three-peat goals. If they can sustain this form until the Super Bowl, expect them to create history. Once that happens, Maria Spagnuolo might have to cook a full Italian dinner for all of her husband’s players.
