This year is special for Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs. The team will seek to make history as they hope to achieve a never-before-seen Super Bowl three-peat.

However, the path to the Super Bowl this year will be harder than the last two years. The AFC is the most competitive division and the championship round is likely to be more competitive than the finals.

Three-time Super Bowl champion Steve Young believes so. The Bay Area legend shared his thoughts on the possibility of the Kansas City Chiefs three-peating this year. In his most recent appearance on The Rich Eisen Show, Young pointed out the fact that while there is a good chance of Patrick Mahomes getting yet another ring, but the biggest challenge for him will be to beat his counterparts in his division.

To be any good in the NFL, you need have one of these elite quarterbacks that can, you know get the ball out who can run and throw it all over the field and they're all in the AFC, Josh Allen, C.J. Stroud, Lamar Jackson, Joe Burrow, Justin Herbert, Patrick Mahomes, you really don't have those guys in the NFC...
Steve Young said

The level of competition in the AFC is exponentially higher than in the NFC, especially over the recent years when the new generation of young and talented quarterbacks has taken over the division.

The AFC guys are going to beat each other up now, now Patrick Mahomes beat those guys in the last few years, it's going to be Joe Burrow, it's going to be Josh Allen and it's going to be that way in the AFC Championship.

Steve Young is optimistic about the Kansas City Chiefs succeeding in achieving a three-peat

Patrick Mahomes has been outlasting the competition for the past few years. However, this season will be different than the previous years because teams are now specifically structuring themselves around with the sole purpose of beating him. He has a target on his back. The AFC is stacked and with the arrival of a C.J. Stroud and a hungry Houston Texans squad; the Chiefs need to be better prepared than they have.

Steve Young concluded by reiterating that as long as Mahomes can get past the AFC rivals, he will be just fine.

Three-peats are really about getting through those guys then getting the NFC and then hoping that they can continue to beat it down because the NFC...look at the 49ers when we play any of those guys, we get beat.

Young pointed out the fact that Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens steamrolled Brock Purdy and Co. on Christmas day. This just points out that AFC teams are significantly talented and are better than their NFC counterparts.

The path to the Super Bowl will be hard for Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs. But last season, at one point, fans and critics were skeptical about the team’s odds of making it to the divisional championship round.

The Ravens were considered the team’s biggest rivals and the team that would beat them. However, Patrick Mahomes came up clutch and proved that he is the best QB in the NFL by securing the win for the Chiefs over the Ravens.
