Neymar Jr. has not been included in the squad to represent Brazil at the 2024 Copa America. A serious knee injury will keep the 32-year-old out of action for at least another 2 months. However, that did not keep the forward from attending Brazil’s Copa America opener against Costa Rica at SoFi stadium. The men in yellow were held to a goalless draw as clips of a frustrated Neymar in the stands went viral.

Brazil’s underwhelming start to the tournament did not sit well with many fans on social media, who appeared to agree to Ronaldinho Gaucho‘s comments regarding the national team. In the absence of Neymar, Vinicius Jr., Raphinha and Rodrygo Goes led the attack for the Selecao. Following the draw, Brazil dropped to second in Group D behind Colombia. The side led by James Rodriguez were spotless against Paraguay and have Jefferson Lerma and Daniel Munoz to thank for their goals.

Brazil will have to pick up their pace soon if they are to avoid difficult opponents early on in the knockouts. They take on Paraguay on the 28th before facing Colombia on the 2nd of July.

‘Wasteful’ Brazil drop points against Costa Rica

Cotsa Rica picked up a massive point in Group D as they held South American giants Brazil to a goalless draw on Tuesday. Despite the clear difference in quality between the two sides, the men in yellow failed to find the target. In fact, they only managed to force four saves out of Patrick Sequeira in their tournament opener.

Neymar’s frustration in the stands was justified when Rodrygo failed to hit the target from close range in the opening minutes of the game. This was followed by a rather unconvincing shot from Raphinha straight at the keeper followed by a disallowed goal by Marquinhos. The centre-back’s headed goal was ruled out for offside after closer inspection by VAR.

Fans however, managed to console themselves after noticing the sheer amount of chances created by Brazil. Sooner or later, the men in yellow are bound to get off the mark and pick up their first win of the tournament. Neymar’s frustration from the stands was mirrored by Brazil head coach Dorival Junior when his men missed a golden opportunity to put the game to bed.
