After not competing in the 2018 and 2022 Winter Games, NHL players will be allowed to participate in the upcoming Olympics in Milan. While there is a still a long way to go for this, players have already started their preparation for this big event.

On Thursday, Skinner would join his teammates at the Downtown Community Arena for an informal skate. During this, the reporters would ask him about his goals for the upcoming year.

The 26-year-old would claim that his goal is to be part of Team Canada in Milan next year. He also expressed that he wants to return to the Stanley Cup final and finish the job.

For my goals this year, of course I wanna set the bar high. I wanna be the goalie for Team Canada at the Olympics, I wanna be able to get back to the Stanley Cup and finish the job.

Stuart Skinner told the reporters

Skinner and his team suffered another heartbreaking defeat in June this year. For a second year running, the Oilers ended up losing the Stanley Cup Final against the Florida Panthers.

The Canadian goaltender started in 5 of the 6 Stanley Cup Final games against the Panthers. He was taken off the ice after the first shift in Game 4 and did not start Game 5. With Calvin Pickard losing for the first time in the postseason in that game, Skinner was back in the next for Game 6.

He faced 23 shots on goal and was able to save 20 of them. However, he gave up three goals, which made things difficult for the Oilers. The Canadian outfit ended up conceding two more goals while leaving their net empty and lost 5-1.

His ambition of being the goaltender for his country led to several NHL fans wildly mocking him. Many brought up his performances with the Oilers in the past season and trolled him. One user wrote, “He’s Delusional” while taking a swipe at him.

Last season was one of the most struggling ones of his short NHL career. The goaltender had a .896 save percentage, the lowest he had in the past 4 years. Apart from that, he had a 2.81 Goals Against Average (GAA) in the 2024-25 campaign.

Stuart Skinner comments on teammate Connor McDavid’s contract extension

McDavid signed an 8-year, $100 million deal ($12.5 million AAV) in 2017. If he does not sign a new deal by the end of the next season, he will become an Unrestricted Free Agent (UFA).

While speaking with the reporters, Skinner hilariously claimed that he and his teammates have not chirped him yet about his new contract. He later mentioned that they are leaving him do his own thing.

We’re not really chirping him right now. Now that you say that, I’ll probably chirp him today. But, no, I mean, he’s in his own situation and we let him kind of do his own thing, obviously. It’s not really in our spot to lead him one way or the other. It’s certainly not mine. So, yeah, just trying to be as supportive as possible and do this thing this year.

Stuart Skinner told the reporters

A few days ago, McDavid expressed that he wants to win things in Edmonton. He would reflect on his comments in June earlier this year and mentioned he would not rush into deciding anything regarding his future.
