The NBA trade deadline hasn’t even approached yet, and the Dallas Mavericks have shocked the entire world of sports with the trade deal involving their best player, Luka Doncic. Among many who have expressed their shock over this big move, Ja’Marr Chase, who’s also awaiting to land a deserving extension, was left captivated– or frankly, a little bewildered.
Just two years ago, the Cincinnati Bengals star wide receiver was shocked by the Mavericks’ acquisition of Kyrie Irving as the Pro Bowler, and once again, he has been stunned by the whirlwind drama of the NBA’s trade season. After hearing about the trade sending Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers for Anthony Davis and other assets, Chase reacted with a surprise on social media.
“NBA a wild place boy,” wrote Chase on X.

The trade, which occurred just before the NBA’s feverish trade deadline, has sent analysts and fans alike into a frenzy of speculations and debate. Doncic was originally expected a lucrative extension, which was even in the discussion when suddenly the Mavs went ahead with the trade.
Interestingly, Chase’s situation with the Bengals is similar to the former part of that story. After a standout season, the wide receiver is still struggling to prove his worth to the Bengals even though the franchise has affirmed prioritizing his contract, the situation hasn’t changed much since last year.
NFL GM draws extreme comparison of Ja’Marr Chase to Luka Doncic trade
If that wasn’t enough, an anonymous NFL General Manager drew parallels between Doncic’s shocking trade and Chase’s contract situation. He was attempting to put the absurdity of the NBA trade deal into an NFL perspective, centering the comparison around Chase and Tampa Bay Buccaneers Mike Evans.
“Imagine the Bengals shipping off Ja’Marr Chase to the Buccaneers for Mike Evans and a second-round pick,” reported Fox Sports Jordan Schultz after his conversation with the NFL GM.
The Luka Dončić-Anthony Davis trade is nearly impossible to translate into NFL terms, but one GM I just spoke with took a fun stab at it:

Much like Doncic, Chase is coming off a remarkable season, joining the elite club, comprising only five years since 1980 to win the receiving triple crown for leading the league in catches, yards, and touchdowns.
His teammate, Joe Burrow – who was also brought in for the NFL perspective by Adam Schefter– has also demanded the Bengals pay Chase the deserving extension. As the contract negotiations continue, all eyes are on the Bengals to see how the franchise pays the star wide receiver with the career stats of 5,425 yards, 395 catches, and 46 touchdowns.
