Petra Kvitova vs Elina Svitolina: Match Preview
Kvitova the defending champion came into this tournament on the back of a round of sixteen exit at the hands of Danka Kovinic, on the green clay courts of the Charleston Open. Before that though, she had won the Qatar Open last month. Post that a thigh injury had been bothering the thirty-one year old, but she seems to have recovered from it now. Here, she beat Jennifer Brady in a tough first round encounter. Kvitova won 6-2 6-3 in ninety-two minutes.
In the second round it got tougher for her as she faced the Greek player Maria Sakkari. Kvitova had to dig her heels deep and she did, eventually winning the match in three sets 6-3 3-6 6-3. In the Quarter-finals she will face an old adversary in Elina Svitolina.
Svitolina has regained some form in the last few weeks. She did well at the Miami Open where she reached the Semi-finals. Post that she got some match practice on clay playing in the Billie Jean Cup against Japan. Svitolina had a first round bye here, in the second she faced Angelique Kerber. Svitolina was in danger of losing the first set via tie-break but once she averted that, there was no looking back for her as she won in straight sets 7-6 6-3.

Kvitova is all about hitting the ball big and hitting it deep, left hand angles, a big serve. Svitolina on the other hand is a terrific mover on court and a great returner of serve. With Svitolina coming back into form, this will be a close game. But expect Kvitova to just edge this contest.
