The Stuttgart Open will feature several top 10 players in action, including Elena Rybakina, Coco Gauff, and Iga Swiatek. Jelena Ostapenko will be competing as the defending champion.
Last year, the Latvian ace became the third player to beat World No.1 in the final of this tournament. It was also her first title on clay since her 2017 Roland Garros triumph.
Sabalenka is a four-time finalist in the clay-court event in the German city. She lost to Ash Barty in 2021, then to Swiatek in 2022 and 2023. But this year, the four-time Grand Slam champion, who has won titles in Brisbane, Indian Wells, and Miami, and also made the final of the Australian Open, has decided to skip the tournament.
Only 28 players are playing in Stuttgart, 19 of whom are direct entries. Four players will secure main draw berths after the qualifying rounds, while four are wild card entrants.
The eight seeded players in the draw are: Rybakina, Gauff, Swiatek, Elina Svitolina, Jasmine Paolini, Mirra Andreeva, Karolina Muchova, and Ekaterina Alexandrova. From these, only Swiatek and Rybakina are former champions in Stuttgart.
Swiatek, after defeating Sabalenka in 2022 and 2023, failed to complete the three-peat due to her defeat at the hands of the Kazakh ace in the semifinals in 2024. It was Paolini who ended Gauff’s run last year in the quarterfinals.
Laura Siegemund, Eva Lys, Ella Seidel, and Noma Noha Akugue are the wild card entrants. Alexandra Eala, Antonia Ruzic, and Magdalena Frech have also been added to the main draw. Eala got the chance after the withdrawal of 2024 Paris Olympics gold medalist Qinwen Zheng.

The six-time Grand Slam champion will lock horns with 2017 Stuttgart champion Siegemund or Magdalena Frech. Defending champion Ostapenko will kick off her campaign against two-time WTA 1000 champion Andreeva.
