Luis Suarez is undoubtedly one of the best strikers of his generation. From lighting up the stage in the Premier League to La Liga as well as internationally, the Uruguayan marksman has an unforgettable legacy in the sport. With the international break set to kick off, the 37-year-old communicated his decision to hang up his boots on the international stage.
With his decision made official, Suarez’s last involvement with Uruguay was a memorable run to the semi-final at the 2024 Copa America. Suarez has been part of several iconic squads, starting from a formidable Liverpool team to the legendary MSN at FC Barcelona. He has also won the European Golden Boot in an era dominated by Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. Suarez’s 142 caps and 69 goals are the most in La Celeste history.
I've been thinking about this and analyzing this. I believe this is the right time.Luis Suarez told the press

Fans react to Luis Suarez announcing international retirement
With just one more game left in the tank for El Pistolero, fans took to social media to express their admiration and appreciation for the veteran striker. From his iconic handball against Ghana in the World Cup to numerous record-breaking seasons and iconic goals playing alongside Lionel Messi, fans found it difficult to single out the Uruguayan’s most iconic moment.
A fan commented that Luis Suarez‘s international legacy is one of the most neglected and underrated. Another added that he is the best striker of his generation. Several Ghanaian supporters still appeared to be hurt by his actions against them at the 2010 FIFA World Cup although his handball and red card are one of the most iconic moments in the tournament.
Suarez currently plies his trade with former FC Barcelona teammate and friend Lionel Messi at Inter Miami. The striker has done well to guide Miami to the MLS play-offs after the Argentine No.10 was out injured due to an ankle injury suffered months ago at the Copa America. Suarez has scored 16 goals and made 5 assists for Miami in 2024. It will only be fitting if the veteran manages to bow out of the international stage with a goal.
