To start the new year, football fans were to see the Georgia Bulldogs take on the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in the Sugar Bowl at Caesars Superdome. However, a deadly attack in New Orleans forced officials to postpone the game.
To celebrate the New Year, folks gathered at New Orleans’ bustling French Quarter as it is known for its New Year’s Eve parties. But little did they know that many on Bourbon Street were in harm’s way. A white pickup truck navigated around police barricades and ran into a crowd of people.
The run down killed 15 people and injured at least 30 more as revealed by the New Orleans government. The driver of said truck was killed in a firefight with police and the area was sealed off as investigators swept it to ascertain the threat situation.
They ended up finding two IED’s in the area. On top of it, the most compelling evidence was when the white pickup truck sported an ISIS flag on its rear bumper. This led the FBI to release a statement where they claimed they were investigating this as an act of terrorism. In the immediate aftermath, Sugar Bowl CEO Jeff Hundley released a statement along with state officials.

ESPN later reported that Caesars Superdome was to host the game on Jan 2nd at 4 p.m. ET. Reports also came out that both the Georgia Bulldogs and Notre Dame Fighting Irish teams were confined to their hotels. This attack comes after football fans dealt with one during Kansas City’s Super Bowl parade.
