The Detroit Lions-Philadelphia Eagles game may provide a break from the string of bad Prime Time games lately. This game may well be a dress rehearsal for the 2025 NFL Championship game.
After suffering a shock defeat against the Minnesota Vikings two weeks ago, the Lions bounced back by decimating the Washington Commanders in the following week. A displeased Dan Campbell took charge of offensive play calling, and the Lions dropped 44 points on the Washington franchise.
Quarterback Jared Goff completed 75% of his passes for 320 yards and 3 touchdowns. Running back Jahmyr Gibbs had a career game. He recorded 172 all-purpose yards, 2 rushing and 1 receiving touchdowns. With that win, the Lions lead the NFC North with a 6-3 record.
Elsewhere, the Eagles were part of a 10-7 dogfight against the Green Bay Packers. The game had four total fumbles (three by the Packers and one by the Eagles) and one touchdown each.
Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts capped off a quiet game with 15 completions from 26 pass attempts for 183 yards and 1 touchdown pass to wide receiver DeVonta Smith. Running back Saquon Barkley recorded just 2.2 yards per carry while wide receiver AJ Brown caught just 2 passes for 13 yards.
These numbers won’t cut it against the Lions, especially if Campbell calls the shots again. The Eagles hold the top spot in the NFC East with a 7-2 record, and ESPN analytics give them a 33% chance of clinching the NFC’s top seed and securing a bye week.
Hurts remains undefeated against Goff and the Lions in the previous two meetings. However, they last played in November 2022, which ended in a 38-35 win for the Eagles.

Why can the Detroit Lions win?
The Lions boast one of the best offenses in the NFL. They averaged 31.4 points through the first nine games, which is the second-most (only the Colts have averaged more).
Goff has once again performed at a high level. In 10 games, he has completed 74% of his passes for 2235 yards, 20 touchdowns, and just 2 picks. Gibbs has 693 rushing yards from 128 carries, 8 touchdowns, and is staring down at his second successive 1000-yard season.
Why can the Philadelphia Eagles win?
There’s locker room tension in Philly despite 7 wins this year. Regardless of what Hurts says, Brown is not happy with his involvement in games. The All-Pro wide receiver is in danger of falling short of 1,000 yards, which would be only the second time since the shortened season of his in 2021.
Moreover, the reigning offensive player of the year, Saquon Barkley, has struggled to produce on the same level as last campaign. Barkley has rushed 149 times for 579 yards and scored 4 touchdowns.
For the Eagles to beat the Lions, they need to work out their differences. The Lions play high-intensity, cut-throat football, which can only be countered with a similar approach. Nick Sirianni has proven that the Eagles are capable of doing it when they surprised the Chiefs in the last Super Bowl.
