India suffered a humbling defeat by 10 wickets in the second Test of the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024/25 at the Adelaide Oval after winning the first Test by a convincing 295 runs at the Optus Stadium in Perth. Virat Kohli failed with the bat in both innings of the second Test, although he scored a hundred in the second innings of the Perth Test. All eyes will be on Kohli yet again as India lock horns against Australia at the Gabba in Brisbane from December 14.

Former India opener Sunil Gavaskar wishes for Kohli to score a century in the third Test in Brisbane. If he scores a hundred in the third Test, then he will have recorded a century in all the stadiums in Australia.

Moreover, Gavaskar said that if Kohli gets a century at the Gabba, then he will be looking forward to scoring one in Melbourne and Sydney as well.

If he scores a century in Brisbane, it will be great. It’s an incentive as well as you know that you join a club if you score a century in Brisbane, the one to score a century everywhere in Australia. After that, going forward he will play in Melbourne and Sydney, where he has scored centuries. So he can score centuries there as well. It means he can score four centuries in the series. Even Bradman never had a series where he scored in every Test match. You are bound to fail in an odd Test. I hope his failure in Adelaide will be offset by strong performances in the remaining three Tests.

India needs to win the third Test in Brisbane as the WTC Final is on the line. It will be very important for the captain Rohit Sharma as well, to stop the string of Test losses under his captaincy. Under him, India were whitewashed 3-0 at home against New Zealand and have now lost the Adelaide Test.

Harbhajan Singh is not happy with the gap between the Perth and the Adelaide Test

Former India off-spinner Harbhajan Singh feels that the big gap between the first Test in Perth and the second Test in Adelaide had killed the momentum for the Indian team. Moreover, he feels that India are favorites to win the fourth Test at the MCG and the fifth at the SCG.

So, if India does go on to win the Test at the Gabba, then they would be the favorites to take the series.

If we look at this as a series of three matches, India has to win two out of these. Their best chances will be, I think, in Sydney and Melbourne. Anyway, if you play your best cricket at The Gabba and win there, then you will definitely win one match out of Melbourne or Sydney. So you should think about that. The equality of the first two Tests shows that both teams have the ability to come back. Australia has come back; now maybe it’s India’s turn to turn the tables

Sunil Gavaskar has also mentioned that he feels the 10-day gap between the first and the second Test has caused issues to the Indian cricket team. He too claimed that it destroyed the winning momentum from the Perth Test.
