The Indian Cricket Team suffered a disastrous 3-1 defeat against Australia in the five-match Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024/25. They started with a bang with a 295-run win in Perth. However, they lost in Adelaide, Melbourne, and Sydney and were saved by the rain in Brisbane. The general performance of the team has been really poor, and most of the batters have struggled to score runs in this series.
Former Indian legendary opener Sunil Gavaskar was very frustrated after India lost the fifth Test at the Sydney Cricket Ground. Gavaskar was not happy with the team’s performance and reacted sarcastically when asked about the improvements that the team should make.
Sunil Gavaskar was visibly frustrated to not get called to present the Border-Gavaskar Trophy
Gavaskar was irritated for not being called to hand over the Border-Gavaskar trophy to Pat Cummins. He stated that his name was on the trophy and he was present on the ground, so he would have been certainly pleased to hand over the trophy to Cummins along with Allan Border. Gavaskar reiterated that just because he is an Indian, he was not called up to present the trophy to the Aussie captain.

Meanwhile, India are out of the World Test Championship as Australia have qualified for the final to face off against South Africa. India suffered a 3-0 loss at home against New Zealand in the lead-up to the BGT. This was their first Test series loss at home since 2012 and their first Test series whitewash at home. Now, as they have lost the BGT badly, it ends their run of retaining the trophy in the last four series.
