Team India under the new Head Coach, Gautam Gambhir, are having a tumultuous time, especially after their whitewash at home 3-0 in the Test series against New Zealand. This is the first time that India have been whitewashed at home in a Test series since the time they started playing Test cricket. Moreover, India suffered their first home series defeat in Tests since 2012.

Former India opener, Sunil Gavaskar, feels that everyone can’t overlook the mistakes and results under Gambhir currently given that his honeymoon period is over. He wants Gauti to guide the players properly in the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Test series.

Moreover, the team under Gambhir were also defeated 2-0 in the ODI series against Sri Lanka away from home. It was the first ODI series win for Sri Lanka against India since 1997. The Indian batters faltered playing against the spin bowling on turning tracks in both series.

The honeymoon period for Gautam Gambhir has ended. We tend to forgive the mistakes made during this period, but we now want him to step in and guide the players properly in the tour of Australia.

Gavaskar also questioned the roles of Abhishek Nayar and Ryan Ten Doeschate in the team management. He feels that Gambhir has scored a lot more runs than both of these players and hence should serve as the batting coach with his valuable suggestions in Australia.

Gautam Gambhir will serve as Indian Team’s coach for the first time in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy

India will travel to Australia for a five-match Test series starting from November 22. Due to the loss in the home series against the Kiwis, India now needs to win four out of the remaining Test matches to have a chance of qualifying for the World Test Championship final. This is the first instance that Gambhir will be in the role of Head Coach for Team India in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

India have won the last two Test series in Australia. The Kangaroos have not managed to win the Border-Gavaskar Trophy since 2014/15. So, Gambhir will have additional pressure to maintain this record.

Moreover, it is expected that the Indian captain, Rohit Sharma, won’t be part of the first two Test matches in Perth and the Day-Night Test in Adelaide due to personal reasons. Jasprit Bumrah is expected to take over as the captain in his absence.
