Jasprit Bumrah, the Indian star pacer, has been the best bowler across all formats currently. What he has been doing in the last few years with the ball in hand has been the stuff of legends. Bumrah has been instrumental in India’s success in all three formats, and he is currently shouldering the responsibility in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024/25. He has already scalped 12 wickets in two matches with an impressive average of 11.25.
Bumrah’s workload has been amazingly managed by the team management and the BCCI over the years. He has been their prized asset, and all responsibilities have been on Bumrah in the ongoing BGT in the absence of Mohammed Shami.
During the second Test match in Adelaide which was a Pink ball Test, Bumrah went down with some cramps, and it was a worrying sign for every Indian fan. However, he resumed his bowling. Former India opener Sunil Gavaskar feels that Bumrah should play the remaining three Tests in the BGT irrespective of what happens.
Bumrah has been sensational in 2024, having scalped 53 wickets in 11 matches at 15.28. He was the Man of the Match in the first Test of the BGT at the Optus Stadium in Perth, as his eight wickets in the match helped India win the Test match by 295 runs. However, Australia came back strongly in the second Test to win the game by 10 wickets.
Sunil Gavskar urges Rohit Sharma to not drop Jasprit Bumrah for even one game
Gavaskar feels that if the Indian team management rests Bumrah for even one game in the upcoming three Test matches in the BGT, India might not be able to pick up the 20 wickets. Gavaskar has asked the Indian captain, Rohit Sharma, to use India’s main weapon in the best way possible so that he is effective in all his spells.
India displayed yet another disastrous batting performance in both innings of the Pink ball Test. They were dismissed for 180 runs in the first innings and 175 runs in the second innings. Australia scored 337 runs in the first innings, courtesy of a 140-run knock from Travis Head. They chased down the 19 runs in the second innings without losing any wicket.
