Basketball, especially the NBA, is one of the most-watched sports in the U.S. Courtside seats often draw celebrities and athletes, some cheering for friends, others showing support for their partners.

This season, USA gymnast star Sunisa Lee and the New York Knicks were an example of that. Lee moved to New York from Minnesota 2 years ago, so it was obvious she would support the Knicks, and she did, not once, but multiple times. Lee was spotted multiple times in a conversation with Knicks star OG Anunoby during her appearances at the MSG this past season.

This led to immense rumors regarding the two, with fans stating that the two may be dating each other. However, Lee put all these rumors to bed as soon as reporters questioned her about her bond with Anunoby. Lee did not waste any time in stating how social media has played a major role in making up fake stories regarding the two.

Honestly, it just started off as a joke, and I feel like social media kind of just, like, took it further than that. But yeah, we’re just friends, and I’m really good friends with a bunch of the guys on the Knicks team.

Lee’s recent remarks close out all the recent rumors that were surrounding the USA star. Lee also claimed that she is very close to Knicks Star Karl-Anthony Towns and his partner Jordyn Woods. Mostly because, just like Towns moved to New York last season, Lee moved to the same place some time back, with the two also playing a role in her decision to support the Knicks.

As for the Knicks, Lee would have enjoyed watching them perform all season as they ended their campaign by finishing #3 seed in the East. They ended up losing to the Pacers in the ECF Finals. Something that they will be looking to make amends for as the new 2025-26 NBA season approaches.

The 22-year-old American, who took home the gold in all-around at the Tokyo Olympics, disclosed in 2023 that the illness made it difficult for her to get out of bed at times. It also caused swelling in her face, fingers, and legs.

I was really nervous and obviously very sad because gymnastics is all I know. Getting sick was very random. It kind of happened one Tuesday and it’s something you can’t wrap your head around… Now that I am doing a lot better I am so grateful for the way that things turned out.

Sunisa Lee told the Reuters

Lee also claimed that the treatment she underwent made her calm, and she is in a better place than she was in 2023. Her warrior mentality was visible to the world when she participated in the 2024 Paris Olympics despite battling the disease off the scenes.

Sunisa Lee shared her honest views on women’s sports growth

Over the years, there has been an immense growth in women’s sports. For example, one could see the underlying growth in the WNBA, with stars like Caitlin Clark, Angel Reese, and Sabrina Inosceu grabbing headlines week in, week out. Even USA star Simone Biles and now Sunisa Lee, who competed in the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, have made an impact on women’s sports in the world. Lee talked about this subject as well to The Mirror.

Yeah, I think it’s incredible… There’s certain powerhouses in each sport and it’s really cool to see. And I think it’s just really important for each woman to get their flowers and their moments.

Regarding women’s sports growth, Sunisa Lee said

Additionally, there is a growing demand for women’s sports. The first season of Unrivaled, a 3×3 women’s basketball league founded by WNBA players Breanna Stewart and Napheesa Collier, started earlier in 2025. Among others who praised the league’s efforts was Alyssa Thompson, a soccer star for the United States Women’s National Team.
