Suns superstar Kevin Durant goes on legendary reply run on NBA Twitter

Kevin Durant

The Phoenix Suns have been one of the biggest letdowns in NBA history based on their play since 2020-21. The NBA finalists from the Covid-affected year would never win more than one playoff round in a run after that. Despite acquiring Kevin Durant in 2023 for the price of four first-rounders, the team has not won a playoff series since 2023.

The trade for Bradley Beal enjoys the lion’s share of blame for this situation. The former Wizards All-Star has been among the league’s most overpaid players during his Phoenix tenure. Hardly available due to injury in 2023-24, he has regressed into one of the league’s worst starting guards. Devin Booker is himself having a down season, with poor big man play around him and Tyus Jones’ scoring passivity.

This roster situation leaves Kevin Durant in a spot of bother. The former Warriors Finals MVP has not had any kind of extended playoff run since leaving Golden State six years ago. Currently out with an injury, the four-time scoring champion will likely see his Suns missing even the play-in game this year. In the midst of all this turmoil around his basketball situation, Durant remains feisty as ever on X.

The NBA icon has been taking some time off his recovery process to debunk narratives about him. A faction of Steph Curry superfans has repeatedly downplayed his impact on that team and on NBA play. Durant took the time out to school some of them with their views.

Ken may be the most emotionally invested Stan in this basketball sh*t, I really respect the fandom my boy. U really committed to pushing these agendas for your favorite player. U deserve compensation real Sh*t.

Kevin Durant has been subjected to a witchhunt by Phoenix Suns media

The Kevin Durant experience as a Phoenix Suns fan has to be one of the most bittersweet ones. Durant came into the team as the most lethal scorer in league history, capable of raining mid-range hesi pullup jumpers better than anyone to ever play. Instead, they got him to a supporting cast that lacked the defensive chops and steel to ride out a tough playoff run.

While he could’ve been better on the defensive end, Durant has consistently been the best player on D for Phoenix. Even this year, his 26.5 points per game average is the highest ever for a 36-year-old. His defensive field goal percentage of 41.1% is among the league’s best, despite Phoenix being a bottom 10 defense. Yet, he has been fighting narratives from members of the team media trying to deflect blame from Booker on to him.

The Phoenix Suns will have to take a long, hard look at options to cut their salary bill. The team will dip into repeater taxes despite being likely to miss even the play-in tournament. Bradley Beal’s no-trade clause could likely leave the front office with no option but to offload Booker, and likely Durant. Many young teams like OKC, Houston, Detroit and Memphis have been named. But it is unknown if or when Durant leaves town.
