Over the years, fans have encountered many quirky superstitions that NFL players have. These superstitions exist in the form of pre-game rituals. For Patrick Mahomes, it is wearing the same pair of red underwear for game days that his wife bought him. For Tom Brady, it was mantras and special stones given to him by his ex-wife. For former Jaguars DT John Henderson, it was asking a member of staff to slap him across the face.
The latest NFL player to reveal his pre-game rituals is A.J. Brown. The Super Bowl champion and star receiver of the Philadelphia Eagles has been in the news for all the right reasons this year. His bizarre habit of reading Jim Murphy’s Inner Excellence on the sidelines to keep himself focused during games made him viral.
A.J. Brown is perhaps the only player in NFL history to read a book on the sidelines during games. The man continued to read after scoring a touchdown in Super Bowl LIX, trolling the Chiefs and their defense. Brown revealed his bizarre list of pre-game rituals that help him get into the desired state of mind in a conversation with Deestroying aka Donald De La Haye.
A.J. Brown has the most unbelievable pre-game ritual
From watching the highlight reel of another NFL legend to listening to a 16-time Grammy awardee, Brown’s pre-game routine would be unpredictable for a layman. His routine is surprising, to say the least, but also, it’s A.J. Brown, if the word ‘unorthodox’ had a representative, he would be it.
When I get in that mode right before. I’mma watch some Julio (Jones) highlights real quick, first of all I’m in the room by myself, pitch black watching Julio because I’m like ‘If he could do it I could do it.’ But there’s one song, Hometown Glory by Adele and it just takes me there. I don’t know what it do but it just takes me there.

The part where he watches Julio Jones’s highlights is not surprising. Watching the highlights of a great player can be extremely motivating, even for the average person who does not play football! The former Falcons’ jaw-dropping catches, insane route-running capabilities, and athleticism motivate Brown to go out there and follow in his footsteps. His urge to hear Adele and do all of this in a pitch-black room is interesting.

To each their own and if it works for Brown, there is no reason to change things! The wideout is content after having downplayed the criticism against him. A.J. Brown will never forget the 2024-25 season and to immortalize his first Super Bowl win, the jersey that he wore in the game remains unwashed and is fitted onto a mannequin in his living room.
