Suresh Raina praised New Zealand star Glenn Phillips

Former Indian cricketer Suresh Raina was at a loss of words, while describing Glenn Phillips‘ stunning one-handed catch. The New Zealand star dived in the air to dismiss Virat Kohli, during India’s Champions Trophy encounter against New Zealand.

India were dealt a heavy blow in the early overs of their last group-stage encounter against New Zealand. The team lost Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Shubman Gill early on, thanks to brilliant bowling from Matt Henry and Kyle Jamieson. Kohli’s wicket was the most spectacular one, as Glenn Phillips, positioned at backward point, made a super dive to his right side to grab a blinder with only a hand.

Phillips’ incredible effort left fans and former players stunned alike, as they quickly took to social media to share their reactions. Among those surprised was former Indian cricket star Suresh Raina, who was commentating during the match. Raina, once known for his brilliant fielding, heaped praise on the New Zealand international. He even urged ICC to declare Phillips as the ‘Superman of Cricket’.

Raina added on by claiming that Phillips’ outstanding effort versus India, was the best of the tournament. Meanwhile, the 28-year-old all-rounder has been lauded for his fielding and catching efforts, often being compared to the likes of former New Zealand skipper Brendon McCullum. Phillips had previously taken a one-handed stunner against Pakistan, dismissing Mohammed Rizwan, and repeated the feat once again.

Nonetheless, India went on to post a competitive total of 249 runs against New Zealand. Shreyas Iyer top-scored with 79 runs off 98 deliveries, while Axar Patel and Hardik Pandya also played crucial knocks. For New Zealand, Matt Henry took a five-wicket haul.

Suresh Raina, Shikhar Dhawan headline Indian Royals lineup for Asian Legends League

Former Indian cricketers Suresh Raina, Shikhar Dhawan, Yusuf Pathan and Irfan Pathan are among the big names in the Indian Royals lineup for the upcoming Asian Legends League. The tournament announced the 17-man squad for the Indian Royals, on social media.

The 2025 Asian Legends League is set to be a five-team competition. The matches will be played at the Miraj International Stadium in Nathdwara, Rajasthan. Legends from Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan and other Asian countries will headline the tournament. Apart from Raina, Dhawan and the Pathan brothers, the Indian side comprises of Ambati Rayudu, Munaf Patel and Manoj Tiwary.

Meanwhile, former Bangladeshi skippers Tamim Iqbal and Shakib Al-Hasan, ex-Afghanistan stars Asghar Afghan and Mohammad Shahzad will also be a part of the league. From Sri Lanka, legends Tillakaratne Dilshan and Upul Tharanga will be in action.
