Gangsters killed the entire family, my grandmother was also there. It happened in Pathankot, so I went there. But there was a bio-bubble in the IPL, where you couldn't return. My father was very upset. When the Kachche gang did what they did, my entire family was in stress. I thought cricket came next, I could play anytime, first, my family was important.

Raina informed the team management and MS Dhoni of his decision and left for India. He returned to play for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in 2021, winning the IPL. It was his last season in the IPL, going unsold in 2022 and then he retired.

Suresh Raina takes dig at IPL franchises for “partying”

Out of the eight original teams in the Indian Premier League, only three have failed to win the IPL. They are Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Delhi Capitals (DC).

Talking to Lallantop, Raina claimed the reason many teams didn’t win the IPL was because they were out partying. He further added that the reason CSK or Mumbai Indians won the IPL was because they weren’t interested in partying.

We (CSK) didn’t party, that's why we are successful. Same with Mumbai Indians. How will you play in the afternoon matches after partying all night?

MS Dhoni had also blamed these parties for India’s poor run in the 2010 T20 World Cup, which saw them getting knocked out of the Super 8 without a single win. Teams like RCB, KKR and MI used to throw huge parties in the past, but most have now come to a stop.
