Midfielder Suresh Wangjam has signed a three-year extension to his existing deal with Bengaluru FC, confirmed by the club on Wednesday. Wangjam’s new contract will retain him at the club until the end of the 2023-24 season.

Wangjam began his professional career in the I-League with the Indian Arrows in 2017. Over the course of two seasons, he appeared in 30 games for them.

Bengaluru scouts saw his potential and signed him to a two-year deal. He initially played for the club’s reserve team before making his debut in the Indian Super League (ISL) in the same year.

Suresh Wangjam’s exit from Bengaluru was rumored on the transfer market ahead of the upcoming season. Bengaluru FC, however, were able to persuade him to sign a contract extension until 2024.

Talking to the club’s official website, Wangjam showed his excitement after signing an extension with the club and stated that he has developed a lot playing in the Bengaluru side and is looking forward to committing to the upcoming seasons.

I’m really happy to commit my future to Bengaluru FC. I came here two years ago, and I have improved tremendously as a player because of my teammates and the staff I have around me. I have so much more to learn and feel this is the best place for me to be able to do that. I also get a lot of love and appreciation from our supporters and I really want to do well for them. It was an easy decision for me to sign on,” said Suresh Wangjam.

Sunil Chettri puts pen to paper on a fresh two-year deal

The Bengaluru franchise has signed Sunil Chhetri to a new two-year deal that will retain him at the club until 2023. The extension would keep Chhetri with Bengaluru FC until the tenth ISL season after he signed his initial contract with the club in 2013.

The Indian captain has appeared in 203 games for Bengaluru FC and has scored 101 goals.  Chhetri led Bengaluru to their maiden ISL title in 2013 and has since won five additional trophies with the club, such as the Federation Cup in 2015 and 2017, ISL 2018-19, and the Super Cup in 2018.
